Job SummaryThe Manager of Policy and External Relations, Native American Affairs plays a key role in the Office of Government and Community Engagement (OGCE) by supporting the Associate Vice Chancellor for Native American Affairs and the OGCE team as well as the rest of the CU campus leadership with CU Boulder’s policy work at the state, federal, tribal, and local levels of government. This position is a key contributor in the small but collaborative Office of Government and Community Engagement which provides a bridge between campus partners and external partners in support of the university’s mission.

This person will support the office with a wide range of work, spanning local, tribal, state, and federal policy as well as campus and community engagement. Demonstrated knowledge of Native American Affairs and dedication to advancing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) are essential.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will BeOutreach:

Assist in managing and coordinating outreach activities with tribes, tribal organizations, tribal education departments, and local native organizations to enhance Native American access to higher education and enhance the success of Native American students, faculty, and staff.

Develop a broad understanding of campus units’ work, with the ability to apply that knowledge to build, strengthen, and develop campus priorities for Native American students, faculty, and staff.

Assist in the development of communications and advocacy plans related to support of Native American program priorities on campus.

Create and foster relationships with campus departments, research facilities, faculty and staff on campus and members of the community to support Native American students, faculty, and staff.

Assist in establishing productive relationships and partnerships between tribal colleges, tribal universities, and tribal schools. Assist in consultation with tribes on matters related to government and/or with tribal elders on matters of cultural significance.

Event Management/Support:

Manage and support events and meetings on campus with tribal leaders and representatives by providing briefing documents, developing agendas, arranging speakers and travel, and issue analysis and/or talking points.

Represent OGCE and/or CU at events and other community events.

Administrative:

Support calendars and scheduling complex schedules (campus members and community partners).

Support monthly expense and travel reconciliation statement development and submissions.

Support senior leader travel requirements (air, hotel, car rental).

This is a primarily on-site position.

What We Can Offer

The hiring range for this position is $68,100 - $80,000.

What We Require

Bachelor’s Degree and at least three years of experience in areas related to advocacy, policy analysis, and tribal governments affairs at the state, federal or local levels.

An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may substitute.

What You Will Need

Demonstrated ability to analyze complex issues and synthesize them into external-facing communications.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to be a self-starter and a great teammate.

Ability to represent the office and university professionally with tact and diplomacy.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office systems (Word, Excel, Outlook) and a broad range of software programs: AI, Adobe Acrobat, and Drupal.

Proven dedication to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Proven success as a collaborator and relationship builder, with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build coalitions and collaborative relationships with a broad range of diverse individuals and groups to achieve results.
