Species360 is a unique blend of a software company, a non-profit organization, and a global leader in wildlife and botanical species care and conservation. We are the predominant non-profit organization serving zoo, aquarium, botanical garden, and related conservation organizations’ animal and plant management needs through our Zoological Information Management System (ZIMS) and Hortis software.Our members include diverse institutions around the world who use our software to record data on wildlife. This critical data enables them to provide world-class care for their animals. It also enables Species360 to develop software and scientific research that supports global conservation.We are seeking a Director of Finance with non-profit leadership experience. Reporting to the CEO, the successful candidate has led and developed finance, business planning, budgeting, and related administration functions. The Director works directly with board members, senior staff, and program leaders in a highly collaborative environment.As a member of the leadership team, develop organizational goals, objectives, and strategies, lead cross-functional initiatives, proactively collaborate with the leadership team, and serve as an ambassador of Species360 externally and a role model internally.We are only considering candidates who reside in Minnesota, as Species360 is headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This is a fully remote position.Candidates are required to travel within the US and internationally 2-4 times/year for key meetings and conferences.Role and ResponsibilitiesLead and develop Finance operation and business planning

Supervise the finance team (2) to ensure the proper functioning of all day-to-day finance administration and reportingCompile, analyze and present financial reportsCoordinate and lead the annual audit processEffectively communicate and present critical financial matters to the CEO and Board of Directors

Budget planning and management

Oversee and lead the annual budgeting and planning process with the CEO and Lead TeamPrepare, administer, review and present all financial plans, forecasts, and budgetsMonitor and analyze financial progress, results and changes and provide recommendationsManage organizational cash flow and forecastingOversee cash, investments and asset managementImplement a robust contracts and financial management/reporting system

Administrative Functions

Update and implement all necessary business policies and accounting practicesOversee administrative and outsourced services, including all business insuranceParticipation in the design, financial analysis and selection of employee insured benefits and serve as plan administrator of the 401(k) planPartner with HR on processes and activities where HR/Finance overlap

Staff management and development

Provide regular guidance, support, and decision-making to direct reportsEstablish, communicate, and monitor performance expectations and standardsRecruit, interview, select, and hire qualified employees

QualificationsBachelor’s degree in accounting or related field; an MBA and/or CPA is preferred10+ years’ broad financial and operations management with final responsibility for the quality and content of all financial data, reporting and audit coordination for either a division, significant program or organizationFinancial accountability in a technology or nonprofit organization, including grants management, preferredFive+ years of supervisory experience preferredSolid knowledge of accounting software (QuickBooks) and business software (MS Office, Google, SharePoint, Spreadsheet expert) and experience managing relationships with software vendorsExceptional leadership, supervision, and motivational experience and skillsExceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication and relationship-building skills to effectively work with culturally diverse staff and membership and various internal and external stakeholdersAble to prepare, interpret and present financial data and concepts to various audiences, including senior staff, team members and board members who do not necessarily have finance backgroundsExceptional organizational skills, self-motivated, able to work independently, take initiative; possess excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail and creativityCommitment to the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusionCompensationThe compensation range for this exempt position is $130,000 – $150,000 based on experience.We offer generous time off benefits, combining holidays and vacation into one Paid Time Off benefit for maximum employee flexibility. You start accruing PTO at 5 weeks per year. In addition, we provide 10 paid sick days plus 8 weeks of paid parenting leave.We offer medical, dental, life, short term and long-term disability insurance, and an HSA plan with employer contributions. You can contribute to our 401(k) plan immediately at hire, which includes a generous employer contribution to all employees.
