Description

Primary duties of the SRA I include technical and administrative tasks that support research on rare diseases and the banking and cataloging of cell and tissue samples for the California Center for Rare Diseases at UCLA. SRA I is expected (following training period) to assist with all lab procedures and eventually carry out these tasks independently, then generate detailed reports for postdoctoral fellows, staff scientists, students, and PI. Responsible for organizing and maintaining extensive sample sets and accurate logging of samples in coordination with other lab members. Ensure proper operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment. Prepare or maintain reagents. Pick up, drop off, and ship samples as needed. Perform these and other duties, as needed, in a flexible fashion. Responsible for lab safety and chemical inventory and disposal.Qualifications

REQUIRED:Knowledge of molecular techniques that include sterile technique, primary human cell culture, PCR, primer design, and RNA extraction.Detailed knowledge of the safety and handling of laboratory chemicals and equipment.Ability to understand scientific protocols and to maintain an organized notebook.Proficiency to perform independently, organize and prioritize jobs, manage time, and meet deadlines.Skill in performing prolonged tasks with appropriate maintenance of directed attention.Working knowledge of cell and molecular biology.Previous experience in a laboratory setting.Prior training in immunohistochemistry and sterile cell culture.Skill in utilizing standard computer spreadsheet and word processing software programs (MS Excel and Word).Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Ability to calculate accurately.
