Day to day as a Director of EngineeringAs the Director of Engineering at Van-Am Tool & Engineering, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing and directing all engineering activities across our manufacturing facilities in St. Joseph, MO. Your engineering operations management skills will allow you to oversee daily activities, ensuring adherence to production schedules and quality standards while monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs). Proficiency in project management is also vital, as you will lead cross-functional teams in executing engineering projects from concept to completion.

A solid understanding of manufacturing processes, including metal fabrication techniques such as CNC machining and welding, along with knowledge of engineering software like CATIA and SolidWorks, will further contribute to your success in this role.

As a leader in engineering, you will provide strategic direction and leadership to the engineering teams across multiple sites, working closely with senior management to develop and implement engineering strategies that align with the company's overall goals and objectives. You will spearhead continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing productivity, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness within the organization.

A significant part of your role involves team management and development. You will be responsible for recruiting, training, and developing a highly skilled and motivated engineering workforce, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability. Conducting performance evaluations, offering feedback, and supporting career development opportunities for your team members will also be a core function of your leadership.

You will oversee the day-to-day operations of the engineering departments, ensuring that production schedules, quality standards, and budgetary constraints are consistently met. Monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) related to production output, quality metrics, and resource utilization will help you implement best practices in manufacturing processes such as stamping, CNC machining, tool and die design, welding, powder coating, and metal fabrication.

In addition, you will lead cross-functional teams in executing engineering projects from concept to completion, ensuring that all objectives are met within the agreed timelines and budgets. Collaboration with departments such as production, procurement, and quality assurance will be crucial to support project goals, and you will manage resources effectively to prioritize and execute projects based on their strategic importance.

Compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and industry best practices is a priority, and you will ensure that the organization adheres to these in all engineering operations. As a champion of safety, you will promote a strong safety culture and ensure adherence to safety protocols throughout the organization.

In terms of credentials, you are expected to have over 10 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with current experience leading and managing technical teams. The ability to anticipate challenges and provide sound solutions is essential, along with the capability to prepare and present information to both management and customers. Familiarity with ITAR regulations and proficiency in engineering software like CATIA and SolidWorks is also required. You should hold a B.S. in Engineering or possess equivalent work experience, as you will have overall responsibility for the Engineering Department.
