A Day in the LifeIn this role, you will join a world-class team of mechanical, electrical, and software engineers responsible for further development and enhancement of the globally launched Robotic Assisted Surgery platform within the Surgical Operating unit:

As a Software Manager working at Medtronic, you will be a leader contributing to the controls software functional area. This involves building and managing a highly engaged team of engineers to ensure that they are positioned for growth and success.

Responsibilities

Lead a team of engineers that design and develop feedback control loop algorithms and controls software for robotic manipulators and surgical instruments.

Represent your team to the wider software organization.

Partner with the greater R&D organization (quality, systems, etc.).

Build sustainable processes for product development.

Drive best practices within your functional area.

Remove barriers for the team.

Participate in design reviews.

Mentor and coach your team members.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree with 10 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with 8 years of relevant experience.

Nice to Have

Applied controls and traditional robotics (rigid-linked manipulators) knowledge.

Mechanical engineering or mechanical system modeling/physics experience.

Experience managing the full product development cycle for software, from concept through to release and maintenance.

Knowledge of how to manage teams in a large organization, especially at multiple locations and remotely.

Great communication skills: Strong ability to coordinate people and teams around unstructured challenges and moving project priorities.

Knowledge of software development workflow.

Experience building models with Simulink, especially real-time control systems.

Knowledge of robotics, specifically medical robotics, or other capital equipment medical devices.

Knowledge of the medical device development process: 60601, 13485, 62304.

Required Knowledge and ExperienceRequires practical knowledge in leading and managing the execution of processes, projects, and tactics within one job area. Typically has advanced knowledge and skills within a specific technical or professional discipline with understanding of the impact of work on other areas of the organization. Requires a Baccalaureate degree (or for degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree which satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A)) and a minimum of 5 years relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 3 years prior relevant experience.

Salary ranges for U.S. (excluding PR) locations (USD): $150,400.00 - $225,600.00. This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP). The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location.
