Position Summary:Upstream Bio is developing innovative therapeutics in inflammation. We are a nimble company with solid financial backing that has raised $400M from high-quality investors. We are developing a monoclonal antibody targeting validated biology and are focused on our two Phase 2 studies in asthma and chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) in 2024. Our offices are in Waltham, MA. We have a hybrid working model, with Tuesdays-Thursdays in the office and Mondays and Fridays flexible to work remotely if desired.The Sr. Scientist, Immunology & Inflammation will have a broad knowledge of inflammatory diseases with demonstrated ability to provide insights into biological pathways driving inflammation. The role requires experience managing CROs to achieve departmental objectives. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required, as is the desire and ability to work in a small, nimble, fast paced, and patient-focused environment.Key Responsibilities:Provide biology and translational expertise for clinical development of therapeutic antibodies within the area of inflammation and allergic diseases.As a scientific thought leader, plan and execute mechanism of action-based studies for receptor targeting antibodies.Collaborate with and oversee research activities conducted by contract research organizations (CROs) including designing, planning, and executing both in vitro and in vivo studies.Collaborate with clinical development and bioanalytical team to support biomarker assessment in clinical trials across multiple indications.Spearhead the scientific interpretation of pharmacology and biomarker assessments, delivering clear and concise summaries of findings to both internal multidisciplinary stakeholders and external partners. presentations, publications, and regulatory documents.Lead discussions and make presentations in multidisciplinary meetings, logically presenting information to convey clear, key messages.Stay up to date and aware of scientific developments and competitive landscape in the relevant fields through interactions with KOLs and consultants, attendance at relevant scientific meeting and review of literature.Qualifications:PhD in Immunology or related discipline with 3-5 years drug discovery experience in pharmaceutical industry or biotech.Expert scientific knowledge in areas of immunology and inflammatory diseases with solid understanding of mechanisms and pathways in immunological diseases.Strong background in biologics drug discovery, including the ability to design and execute a strategy to elucidate mechanism of action of targeted therapies (specifically receptor targeting antibodies is highly desirable).Experience with immuno-pharmacological techniques including in vitro and ex-vivo immune cell-based assays, ELISA, MSD, flow cytometry based immune cell profiling.Knowledge of biomarker discovery and analysis is highly desirable while experience with in vivo pharmacology is preferable.Experience working with external CROs, authoring technical reports and regulatory documents.Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate scientific proposals and results.Highly organized, self-directed and collaborative individual with ability to work in a cross-functional matrix environment.
