Description

The Vice President of Human Resources (HR) & Information Technology (IT) provides executive-level leadership and guidance to the HR operations of this nonprofit organization of over 600 employees in various cities nationally. The Vice President is responsible for setting, enforcing, and evaluating legally compliant human resources policies, procedures, and best practices; and identifying and implementing long-range strategic talent management goals. This position reports directly to the CEO. This person will serve as a member of the leadership team and as a trusted advisor to the CEO and COO. They must be organizationally savvy, able to work with and influence senior leaders regarding complex people management and leadership issues, evaluate complex interpersonal scenarios, and recommend thoughtful and appropriate solutions and courses of action.

Responsibilities:

Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains HR staff in the National Office and at site locations

Manages and leads the operations of the HR Department

Oversees the daily workflow of the HR Department

Manages the organization's annual performance evaluation process in cooperation with Senior Leadership

Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations to HR staff

Advises and supports managers, supervisors and senior staff leaders on the administration of corrective action to employees in accordance with company policy

Collaborates with Senior Leadership to define the organization's long-term mission and goals; identifies ways to support the mission through talent management.

Identifies key performance indicators for the organization's HR and talent management functions; assesses the organization's success and market competitiveness based on these metrics

Ensures delivery of high-quality, proactive HR services, and processes enabling the attainment of strategic business goals and critical initiatives

Provides organizational development interventions and support including organization design and leadership transitions

Promotes and maintains effective communications with management teams and employees throughout the organization to improve employee productivity and engagement by providing guidance, coaching, and feedback on matters related to employee relations and performance management

Partners with site Leadership Teams and the National Senior Leadership Team to identify employee relations issues that arise and elevate and escalate such issues appropriately toward prompt resolution

Provides feedback from sites to the National Senior Leadership Team following the implementation of new and revised processes and policies throughout the organization

Collaborates with senior leaders in other support enterprises (Finance, Legal, IT) to deliver effective services to the organization

Manages the organization's reward & recognition programs

Researches, develops, and implements competitive compensation, benefits, performance appraisal, and employee incentive programs

Provides guidance and leadership to the HR team

Maintains knowledge of and advises Senior Leadership on industry trends and standards regarding employee compensation and benefits

Ensures compliance with employment, benefits, insurance, safety, and other laws, regulations, and requirements

Maintains knowledge of laws, regulations, and best practices in employment law, human resources, and talent management

Drafts and implements the organization's staffing budget and the budget for the HR Department

Participates in professional development and networking conferences and events.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Strong business acumen and able to assess the HR implications of business priorities

Thinks and acts strategically, exercises exceptional business judgment and operational capability

Strong influencing skills with people and teams with experience operating successfully in a complex matrix organization that has multiple stakeholders and competing priorities

Creates accountability within and across teams, unifying them under one purpose and shared values, including setting direction by creating a clear and compelling vision of the future

Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with proven ability in communicating with senior executives

Builds a strong network of cross-organizational partnerships

Experienced people manager with a proven track record that shows managerial courage and success in challenging employees to achieve organizational and personal goals

Experience in organization design and creating workforce plans to inform decisions. Working knowledge of compensation structures, salary administration and market analysis

Significant experience with workforce analytics and the ability to use data and reporting to drive strategic decisions

Working knowledge of all HR activities and associated state and federal regulations (e.g. COBRA, Wage and Hour laws, Fair Labor Standards Act, Equal Employment regulations, OSHA, Workers Compensation, American with Disabilities Act, FMLA, CFRA, etc.)

Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required; Masters or law degree a plus.

A minimum of 10 years of human resources leadership including having served as trusted adviser to senior leaders of a business.

SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP strongly preferred.
