Division Director of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology

The Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Minnesota is seeking a board-certified cardiothoracic anesthesiologist to serve as the Division Director of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology.

The University of Minnesota Medical Center is a quaternary care academic institution with an adult and congenital cardiac surgical program that cares for about 1000 patients per year. A key strength is the heart failure program with a well-developed cardiac assist device and strong transplant program including lung transplants.

The Department of Anesthesiology is committed to creating a legacy of discovery, innovation and compassion in patient care, research and education of leaders in anesthesiology. Additional areas of focus of the Division of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology are Enhanced Recovery after Cardiac Surgery (ERACS), right heart failure and pulmonary hypertension, and bloodless cardiac surgery. All faculty within the division are fellowship-trained with advanced certification in perioperative transesophageal echocardiography.

There are exciting future opportunities within the collaborative work of the Cardiovascular ICU led and managed primarily by anesthesiologists.

Position Highlights

The ideal candidate will have a clear vision for advancing the subspecialty, experience collaborating with ICU teams, cardiologists and other colleagues, and proven leadership skills in crafting the future of the division. The division works closely with the Anesthesiology Critical Care Medicine to oversee the post-operative management of cardiac surgery patients in the CTICU. The division enjoys a strong relationship with the cardiac surgeons, collaborating in research, quality improvement, and participating in cardiac surgical M&M. The incumbent will set and achieve departmental and division research, education, patient care, and quality and safety goals annually, and to develop future annual goals. The department offers competitive residency and fellowship programs including a Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology fellowship. This position will include inpatient clinical services on our vibrant academic campus at the University of Minnesota Medical Center - a large metropolitan area with over 3 million people. 16-hour call duty schedule, home call.
