Director of Academic Advising and Retention

In this leadership role, you will provide supervision to campus academic advisors, including managing campus advising centers that guide students on academic and transfer services. You will also support the Vice Chancellor and Assistant Vice Chancellor of Enrollment and Student Success by developing, maintaining, and interpreting reports on the effectiveness of advising services. Collaboration will be key, working with Academic Affairs, Educational Technology, Diversity Affairs, Career Link, the high school dual enrollment program, and academic school deans and program chairs.

In addition, as part of your responsibilities, you will supervise the academic retention coaches, including organizing and coordinating weekly at-risk retention meetings, and reports, assigning students to the appropriate coaches and academic advisors, and facilitating weekly communication to identify at-risk students, focusing on four key areas:Academic IssuesFinancial IssuesA Sense of Belonging to The CollegePersonal/Mental Health Issuesto support enrollment, retention, and degree completion. A crucial aspect of this role involves acting as a bridge to support students throughout their programs of study, ensuring they have access to essential resources and services. By focusing on a smooth transition from the foundational first semester to the second, you will work to enhance student retention and success rates.

Major Responsibilities:

Oversee and guide the academic advising process at the Lake County campus, including assessing and improving advising efforts to align with enrollment growth trends.Cultivate strong working relationships with school deans, vice chancellors, and assistant vice chancellors of enrollment, student success, and academic affairs.Provide training for all advising center advisors, current and new faculty advisors, and part-time advisors.Serve as the Ivy Cares and Ivy Achieves campus lead, and represent the campus on the statewide advising committee.Manage advisor assignments and adjust assignments as needed.Serve as the contact for Canvas and Service Now tickets and the Lake County Advising mailbox.Conduct SAP workshops for terminated students and staff.Identify and track students eligible to register but have not done so, and develop pre-registration incentives to boost enrollment through advising.Serve as a resource to staff regarding the needs of at-risk students.Monitor advisor's caseloads for retention rates, SAP appeals, communications, and ways to provide outreach.Review and assess reports and data, analyze trends, and develop strategies for improvement in areas of opportunity as they relate to retention and student success.

Pay Range:

$60,000-70,000/year

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required.A minimum of two (2) years of progressive experience in Student Affairs or a related field and one (1) year of supervisory experience is required.Broad knowledge of retention and enrollment management processes and the ability to develop and maintain close working relationships with both internal and external constituents.Must demonstrate the ability to take initiative and make decisions. Interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle major projects simultaneously are required.Computer literacy and orientation toward creative uses of technology in the delivery of services for students are needed. Must possess a willingness and ability to travel.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in counseling, student personnel, adult or higher education, or other preferred discipline.Experience in a community college is preferred.2+ years supervisory experience preferred.
