JOB SUMMARY:

The Director of Student Engagement works closely with the Associate Vice President for Catholic Culture (AVPCC) to implement and maintain First Year Experience (FYE) and Student Activities programs at the university. This position provides logistical support to ensure that Welcome Weekend and New Student Orientation (NSO) are carried out with excellence, and as such serves as a key player in the spiritual, intellectual, and human formation of students. The Director of Student Engagement also oversees the Student Activities Council, Student Government Association, student clubs and organizations, and intramurals, in line with USF’s overall vision of human formation. The Director of Student Engagement interacts with a wide range of the university community including employees, students, visitors, and friends of the university. Must demonstrate willingness and ability to support and actively contribute to the Catholic and Franciscan mission and values of the university.

Major Responsibilities/Activities :

Strives to achieve the mission of USF as a Catholic University by:

Performing duties in a manner that provides a credible witness to the university’s Catholic and Franciscan worldview, identity, and values.

Ensuring that programming reflects and reinforces the Catholic identity and mission of the university.

Promoting human formation through spiritual growth, character development, and service to others.

Personally modelling USF’s Catholic and Franciscan Values in the facilitation and implementation of all the university’s policies, procedures, and practices.

Providing pastoral presence and cultivating relationships with students through programming and ministry of presence.

Under the direction of the AVPCC, assist in planning and implementation of First Year Experience (FYE) Programs by:

Coordinating logistics in the preparation and execution of New Student Orientations and Welcome Weekend, including:

Creating schedules and gathering resources for regular meetings for FYE programming.

Organizing use of university facilities and catering services.

Collaborating with Admissions and Academic Affairs first year initiatives to ensure inter-departmental communication.

Ensuring that accurate information related to all aspects of the First Year Experience is provided in printed, electronic, and website sources, including marketing materials, the USF website and calendar, Employee and Student News, and Event Communication.

Assisting in communication with, and oversight of, OWLs and FYE Assistants.

Assists in the university assessment process for FYE programs.

Organizes and maintains FYE files on SharePoint.

Aids the AVPCC in research regarding orientation, student transition, and retention.

Oversees Student Activities Council (SAC), Student Government Association (SGA), Student Clubs and Organizations, and Intramurals.

Oversees and advises SAC in planning and implementing campus-wide student events, including annual traditions such as Homecoming Week, St. Francis Week, Spring Fling Week, Den After Dark, etc., as well as exploration and implementation of a variety of activities to enhance the student experience and provide opportunities for meaningful student engagement.

Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates SAC coordinators.

Provides mentorship and formation to SAC coordinators.

Oversees and advises SGA on all governance affairs and activities.

Provides mentorship and formation to SGA officers.

Attends weekly SGA meetings including executive council meetings.

Oversees Student Clubs, Organizations and Intramurals.

Manages Presence software.

Provides mentorship and formation to club/org officers, team captains.

Ensures Clubs/Orgs and Intermural teams have the resources needed for success.

Assists in the university assessment process for Student Activities areas.

Assists student leadership team in cooperation with Director of Mission Programming by:

Assisting in application and selection processes for new student leaders.

Communicating opportunities and required events to student leaders.

Performing needed functions as a member of student leadership team for events, formation, and retreats.

Develop and execute a plan for enhancing commuter student engagement.

Other duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree required; degree requirement may be waived in lieu of adequate administrative assistant or ministry experience.

Experience

Experience in ministry, student activities, or event planning highly desired, sufficient to demonstrate competency in community building, project management, and staff supervision.

Understanding of the Catholic faith and strategy for forming the whole person required.

Knowledge and Skills

Must demonstrate a personal relationship with and devotion to Jesus Christ and his Church.

Possesses ability to work closely with students, faculty, staff, and parents.

Possesses the necessary skills to be a part of a dynamic team.
