Job Summary

The Global Process Owner is responsible for planning, developing, and initiating various business process improvements for the Accounts Receivable and Banking Services office. Reporting to the Director of A/R and Banking Services, this position provides experience and best practices knowledge to implement new business processes and improve existing ones. The role ensures student accounting tasks, roles, and responsibilities are effectively managed in the Controller’s Office.

Key Responsibilities

Leading business process improvements, policy and procedure review and implementation.

Training for all major business processes in student accounting, including student collections, student receivables, third-party sponsor payments, refunding, fee assessments, account reconciliation, tuition waivers, and 1098T reporting.

Department Description

The UCSF Controller’s organization delivers full accounting services and related systems for faculty, staff, and students, the UCSF Foundation, all University departments, and outside entities with a business relationship with the University. Services include General Ledger, Capital and Cash Accounting, Payroll, Student Loan Billing and Collections, Sponsored Research Accounting, and a Customer Service Center.

The Accounts Receivable and Banking Services unit is a major component of the Controller’s office, managing bank account activity, student accounting, incoming payments, and related compliance and internal controls for the UCSF campus.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Seven or more years of relevant progressive experience in a large, diversified, and complex finance-focused environment.

Expert knowledge of financial processes, policies, and procedures, as well as related accounting and regulatory compliance requirements pertaining to student accounting.

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in written and oral forms with executive, senior management, faculty, staff, managers, and technical staff.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Advanced skills in the use of spreadsheet and database software.

Analytical skills sufficient to develop and implement financial data management and reporting systems.

Expert interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively across the organization at all levels.

Requires skills in project management, leadership, and process re-design.

Expert knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources.

Expert leadership ability within the department and external to own group.

Skills include sophisticated service orientation, ability to multi-task effectively in a varied, high-volume environment; use of sound judgment and decision-making, critical thinking, creative problem solving, and effective verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with higher education best practices.

Additional Information

This position is remote-based and requires on-site work four to six times a year (at the employee's expense).
