Your role at Tumi:

The Associate Technical Designer at TUMI plays a crucial role in supporting both the design and development teams throughout the lifecycle of full-price and outlet collections. This position ensures that designs are translated into technical specifications and maintains alignment with TUMI’s standards from initial concept to final production. You will work onsite 4 days and remotely 1 day weekly.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with designers to review and develop technical drawings for sampling, including creating detailed technical illustrations and assisting in design presentations using Photoshop, CAD, and hand sketches for concept decks.
  • Offer recommendations to achieve the intended aesthetic and ensure consistency across collections while adhering to TUMI’s quality standards.
  • Manage specification changes, update technical drawings, and review confirmation samples in conjunction with designers and product developers.
  • Facilitate communication of technical information to both domestic and international departments to ensure the design intent is realized.
  • Oversee the technical design process from handoff to production, including maintaining and updating technical drawings throughout the development cycle.
  • Participate in the evaluation of confirmation samples with the Product Development and Design teams and assist in communicating those changes with the correct departments.
  • Maintain and update the digital CAD library, including current and new products, and manage the standards library and seasonal print library.
  • Lead hardware development processes across various product categories.

We’re excited if you have:

  • 1 to 3 years of experience in technical design related to consumer products, including bags, small leather goods, or travel products.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and capable of working both independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with a proven ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and other Adobe software.
  • Experience in hardware design, with 3D modeling and rendering skills considered a plus.
