Under direction, the Arts & Culture Coordinator, creates, coordinates, and maintains arts and culture services, programs, projects, and events to create greater and growing interest in the Arts & Culture activities.

The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Some weekday evenings and weekends required for monthly TASHCO meetings, or programs and events.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Designs, plans, publicizes, implements, evaluates, and reports on various public art, performing arts, and visual arts programs, events, facilities, and amenities for all ages and abilities at city facilities and other city properties.

Observes and evaluates programs, surveys participants, analyzes program success, and recommends improvements.

Serves as a liaison and represents the city of Thornton to outside organizations and communities in all arts and culture matters using appropriate communications.

Plans, schedules, and coordinates the activities of contractors, consultants, and others on a project basis managing all related details and deadlines.

Develops marketing and strategic plans working closely with other related staff. Assists with the design and distribution of Arts and Culture publicity using digital, print and media resources.

Develops and assists with the annual strategic plan and division budget; recommends budget priorities and allocation of resources; monitors and approves expenditures.

Develops and makes recommendations and updates on policies and procedures affecting public art or arts and culture programming processes.

Prepares routine narrative and/or statistical reports relative to assignment.

Responsible for the application and implementation of grants and the submittal of related reports and updates.

Responds to inquiries and related operational queries, and resolves problems and concerns expressed by patrons and/or organizations. Oversees customer service responses.

Supports the Thornton Arts Sciences and Humanities Council (TASHCO) including related budgeting, funding, and reporting.

Participates in special events, including but not limited to, Thornton Fest, Harvest Fest, Winter Fest, and Day of the Dead with assigned tasks and responsibilities.

Works a flexible schedule including evenings, nights, and weekends as needed.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Arts & Culture CoordinatorIn addition to the previous general responsibilities, incumbents in the Arts & Culture Coordinator assignment will also be responsible for the following essential functions:

Oversees scheduling a variety of visual art and performing arts programs such as quarterly art exhibits, Thornton Arts Academy, and annual events.

Schedules classrooms and secures performance venues to support Division and City goals for expanded community access to the arts.

Implements the goals, objectives, and policies of TASHCO into workable programs, projects, and activities and serves as the board's Secretary. Schedules TASHCO meetings and coordinates all logistics onsite and online to support board business.

Works directly with performing and visual artists to support indoor and outdoor events, including the coordination of such with TASHCO and local groups to provide optimum arts programs for the city.

Monitors progress, guides, and trains staff and volunteers.

Supervises, directs, schedules, and establishes job priorities and assigns activities for staff and volunteers; makes recommendations regarding hiring, discipline, termination or advancement of employees, evaluates performance.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience

:Bachelor's degree in Arts Management, Performing Arts, Fine Arts, or a related field from an accredited college or university; 2 years of experience in arts, arts management, or related management. Supervisory or lead experience is preferred. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Licensing/Certification

:May need the ability to travel to various locations in a timely manner as the job requires.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

:Knowledge of Thornton City Code, Administrative Directives, and Personnel Code as they apply to area of assignments.Knowledge of the policies, procedures, and goals of the city of Thornton and the Arts and Culture Division.Knowledge of the theory, principles, practices, and methods of developing, coordinating, and managing quality arts and cultural programs.Knowledge of developing community programs for specific audiences.Knowledge of city of Thornton programs, activities, and facilities.Knowledge of the principles and practices of excellent customer service and the ability to raise the bar on such, program quality, through constant monitoring and analysis.Knowledge of art mediums, exhibits, and public art installations.Knowledge of general accounting and budgeting processes.Knowledge of the principles and practices of supervision and training.Skill in planning, developing, recommending, coordinating, and organizing special events and arts programs for all ages and abilities.Skill in creating and maintaining a database of interested individuals for arts programs.Skill in supervisory practices, including employee development, and performance management.Ability to use logic and reasoning to understand, analyze, and evaluate complex situations and research information.Ability to listen well and communicate effectively orally and in writing with various audiences, including the public and city staff.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other City employees, partners, media, and the general public.Ability to develop, monitor, and maintain program/project timelines and supporting materials.Ability to use standard office equipment, camera/video equipment, and computer equipment and software including RecTrac and Adobe Suite.Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and solve practical problems.Ability to identify key stakeholders and think strategically.Ability to prepare grant applications or proposals; implement and administer the grant process; seek and prepare grant applications and proposals.Ability to supervise, direct, and train employees and volunteers.Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is required to balance, stoop, kneel, reach, stand, walk, lift, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and make repetitive motions. This position is mostly sedentary work; exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. The employee is required to have close visual acuity. The employee is subject to both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions.
