Job Title: Epic Optimization Specialist - DIS
Job Summary: Work with customers and teammates to observe operational workflows and determine system requirements for system optimization to bring maximum clinical and operational efficiency. Configure complex clinical applications and systems to meet operational requirements. Work closely with the existing application project and support teams to support epic and other clinical applications throughout the healthcare mission at UMMC.
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in healthcare, information technology or related field and four (4) years of information technology or healthcare clinical experience or equivalent combination of education/experience. Experience must include two (2) years supporting epic applications that include building and optimizing.
Certifications, Licenses or Registration required : Must have Ambulatory, ClinDoc, Stork orders, Orders, MyChart or other Epic certification. Multiple Epic clinical application certifications preferred. RHIA, CAHIMSS, CPHIMSS and/or other clinical certifications preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Extensive working and build knowledge of the electronic health record. Knowledge of operational workflow processes. Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications. Analytical and problem resolution skills. Problem solving and critical thinking skills. Ability to envision and develop creative solutions to complex problems. Active listening skills. Ability to handle occasional stress including deadlines and interpersonal conflict. Ability to self-manage yet also functions well in a team environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of stakeholders. Strong interpersonal skills. Solid organizational skills with the ability to focus detailed, concentrated effort to multiple projects and re-establish priorities as necessary. Ability to supervise, mentor, and/or provide functional guidance to assigned subordinate personnel or personnel assigned on a temporary or intermittent basis. Responsibilities
Assist in recommending the functional strategy for clinical and workflow content improvements including but not limited to provider/clinician documentation, charge capture, clinic volume and patient throughput. Recommends innovative ideas, processes, and/or procedures for enhancements, additions, and modifications to improve existing systems. Assist and train customers. Work with and support dedicated trainers in developing training materials in support of optimization efforts. Determine proper system implementation parameters and develop comprehensive test plans; execute system updates and changes for small to medium projects following standard procedure for build, testing, and migration including UMMC dis change management procedures. Analyze, detect, identify, and correct semi-complex technical problems and deficiencies. Participate in overall DIS projects such as major upgrades or other medium to large projects as it relates to system optimization. Monitor and comply with internal policies and operating procedures for optimization group and overall DIS policies and procedures; mentor and supervise team members; perform as application and project lead for medium to large optimization projects; complete tasks with minimal instruction or low details. Obtain and maintain certifications as required to support multiple applications; keep abreast of current and new technologies and offers suggestions for use in applications. Engage and communicate with all stakeholders for specific optimization project purposes; monitor key metrics to assess impact of each optimization effort or engagement. Collaborate with team members and assists operational and clinical leadership in development of strategic optimization plans. Evaluate clinicians' abilities and efficiency on Epic and works with clinical and operational leadership on specific plans for improvement.
