Executive Director - Timber Lake PlayhouseAbout Timber Lake Playhouse:Timber Lake Playhouse is Illinois’ longest-running professional summer theatre, producing a diverse array of performances from iconic musicals to new works. TLP fosters community engagement and artistic excellence and seeks a visionary leader to help sustain and grow its reputation as a cultural cornerstone of the region. Timber Lake Playhouse is a Tier 8 Small Professional Theatre with Actors’ Equity Association.Mission Statement:To provide the best expression of theatre arts to the regional community by presenting creative works that entertain and inspire, while helping aspiring artists transition to the profession.Position Overview:The Executive Director will be the chief executive of Timber Lake Playhouse, providing leadership in collaboration with the Board of Directors and with oversight and deep collaboration with the Artistic Director and Director of Operations. The ED will oversee day-to-day operations, financial management including grant writing, fundraising, marketing, and play a large part in strategic planning. This role requires a radically empathetic, community-minded leader with expertise in theatrical nonprofit management, strong financial literacy, and a passion for heightening avenues for the arts in underserved communities.Key Responsibilities:

- Leadership & Strategy: Serve as an inspirational leader, developing and implementing a strategic plan in partnership with the Board of Directors to fulfill Timber Lake Playhouse's mission and long-term goals. Foster a shared vision that motivates and empowers staff, Board members, and the community through example, ensuring the organization remains aligned with its core values while pursuing innovative growth opportunities.

- Usher in a New Era: With our new Artistic Director’s creative vision as a springboard for further discovery, support the process of realizing TLP’s next chapter as a contemporary cornerstone of regional theatre.

- Financial Management: Oversee the annual operating budget with vigilance. In real time, monitor financial performance, and continue to pivot to ensure fiscal health. This includes optimizing ticket sales, memberships, donations, sponsors and grants.

- Grant Writing: Lead efforts to discover and secure grant funding to support the organization's financial sustainability and increase financial capacity.

- Fundraising & Development: Lead donor cultivation, create partnerships with foundations, and build sustainable revenue streams. Support Board sanctioned committees and their involvement in fundraising activities.

- Community Engagement & Marketing: Serve as the public face of TLP, building relationships with local organizations and members of our community. Direct marketing and communications strategies to grow engagement from new audience members to our year-round special events, evergreen summer subscription series and rapidly expanding education program.

- Operations & Staff Management: Oversee day-to-day operations, staff management, and the overall logistics of running a successful theatre through supervision and empowering of our Director of Operations. Recruit and develop staff to align with organizational goals and foster professional growth. The Executive Director will be responsible for hiring, terminating, and determining staff compensation, ensuring the organization operates efficiently and in accordance with its goals.

- Policy and Non-Profit Governance: Develop, implement, and regularly update organizational policies to ensure alignment with federal and state laws, nonprofit governance standards, and best practices in the arts sector. Stay informed of legal changes and industry standards to maintain compliance and foster a culture of accountability.

- Board Relations: Collaborate closely and transparently with the Board of Directors, presenting progress reports, offering governance advice, and serving as the conduit between the board and staff.

- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in arts administration, theatre, business, or a closely related area, or comparable industry experience.

- 5+ years in senior management roles, preferably in nonprofit or performing arts organizations.

- Proven experience in fundraising, community engagement, and financial oversight.

- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams, community stakeholders, and Board members.

- Familiarity with emerging technologies with the adaptability to change practices when necessary.

- Excellent communication and public speaking skills, with experience managing marketing campaigns to expand audience engagement.

- Familiarity with nonprofit governance, strategic planning, and the dynamics of professional theatre environments.

- High emotional intelligence and the ability to handle sensitive issues, build relationships, and engage effectively across the organization.
