Commercial General Manager

Our client is looking for an experienced candidate to join their operation, based in Heathrow. The General Commercial Manager will be responsible for leading and overseeing our client's operations across multiple departments, including Air, Sea, Road, Customs, Warehouse, and Logistics. The successful candidate will drive business growth, enhance customer service, and ensure operational efficiency. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills and a proven track record in managing budgets, compliance, procurement, and IT systems.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Management:

Oversee day-to-day operations across Air, Sea, Road, Customs, Warehouse, and Logistics departments.

Develop and implement strategies to drive business growth, enhance operational efficiency, and improve customer service.

Client and Supplier Relationships:

Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, ocean carriers, airlines, hauliers, and other key suppliers.

Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and retention.

Strategic Management:

Lead budgetary planning and manage P&L for operational departments.

Develop and execute strategies to meet financial targets and operational goals.

Compliance and Safety:

Ensure compliance with Health & Safety standards and maintain accreditation status (AEO, ERTS, IATA, Regulated Agent).

Implement and monitor compliance policies and procedures.

Talent Management:

Recruit and retain top talent for key managerial and operational roles.

Develop and mentor team members to support career growth and operational excellence.

Procurement and Bidding:

Manage procurement processes, bidding, and quoting to customers.

Negotiate with suppliers to secure favourable terms and conditions.

Insurance Management:

Oversee insurance claims and ensure timely resolution.

Manage relationships with insurance providers.

IT and Data Security:

Manage the IT team and ensure data security protocols are in place and adhered to.

Oversee the implementation of new technologies and systems to support business operations.

Company Culture:

Foster a positive and collaborative company culture.

Promote employee engagement and ensure a supportive work environment.

Skills and Requirements:

Technical Skills:

In-depth knowledge of Air, Sea, Road, Customs, Warehouse, and Logistics operations.

Proficiency in budget management and financial analysis.

Strong understanding of compliance standards and regulations (AEO, ERTS, IATA, Regulated Agent).

Experience with procurement, bidding, and insurance management.

Competence in IT management and data security.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.

Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and team members.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred or relevant qualifications.

Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in a senior management role within the logistics or transportation industry.

Proven track record of successfully managing operations, budgets, and teams.

Experience in implementing operational strategies and driving business growth.

Relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, CILT) are a plus.
