Job Summary:

The Development Director is responsible for managing the fundraising and donor activities to raise awareness and financial support for Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter (YVAS). In partnership with the Executive Director, who serves as the Chief Development Officer, the Development Director is accountable for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors through personal contact, direct mail and newsletter campaigns, fundraising and awareness events, foundation research and grant request writing, planned giving, monthly giving, matching gifts, solicitation of corporate gifts, donor acknowledgment, and management of donor records. This position also leads fundraising efforts for the capital campaign, oversees foundation applications, and manages the volunteers in the Campaign Leadership Team. The Development Director will maintain a commitment to the philosophies and policies of YVAS in the performance of duties and respect the dignity and basic rights of each animal to support the mission of YVAS.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Giving Program/Donor Relations:

- Works closely with the Executive Director and direct mail contractor on design concepts for direct mail; oversees scheduling and production of direct mail solicitation; evaluates and selects donor lists and acquisition lists for solicitation.

- With the Executive Director, oversees writing, scheduling, and production of newsletters; works with Executive Director and Board committees to create donor recognition and appreciation programs; coordinates donor appreciation and special events.

- Designs and implements opportunities or programs specifically for the corporate or business communities to become more involved with YVAS.

- Oversees and monitors donor database; ensures that donor gifts are properly recorded and acknowledged.

Development Programs:

- Works closely with the Executive Director to research and prepare grants; maintains grant schedule and monitors financial progress.

- Works closely with the Executive Director and Board/volunteer committees to successfully implement appeals for major and planned gifts.

- Supports the Executive Director in capital and endowment campaign efforts, including direct solicitation and engagement with high-net-worth individuals.

- Manages the volunteers in the Campaign Leadership Team, providing direction, support, and recognition to ensure effective campaign execution.

- Researches and prepares applications for foundation funding opportunities to support both general operations and specific projects, including the capital campaign.

- Submits department budget; follows established budget.

- Prepares monthly reports and/or other data as requested by the Executive Director.

- Evaluates, proposes, and monitors other methods of income development or awareness for the organization.

- Acts as YVAS spokesperson as assigned.

Event Planning:

- Responsible for securing corporate sponsorships for events and capital campaign initiatives.

- Assists with recruitment and supervision of volunteer event committee members.

- Coordinates event logistics; contracts with vendors and licenses.

- Maintains event records and files; oversees event budget.

- Responsible for donor/sponsor acknowledgment and recognition.

Staff Supervision:

- Actively supports associate staff and volunteers and promotes the development of skills related to the advancement of the goals and mission of YVAS.

- Represents YVAS in a professional and courteous manner at all times.

- Provides quality service to customers, volunteers, and staff recognizing their individual contributions to YVAS.

- Actively promotes YVAS programs and services.

Minimum Qualifications (Experience/Education):

- Bachelor’s Degree conducive to supporting the responsibilities of this position.

- Three to five years of fundraising or related experience in a nonprofit setting.

- Experience in managing capital campaigns and working with volunteer leadership teams.

- Demonstration of YVAS core values on and off duty.

- Ability to train and effectively direct outreach staff.

- Ability to build alliances with community organizations and agencies. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with local, state, and national animal welfare organizations.

- Demonstrate personal communication skills to include knowledge of interviewing techniques, public speaking, skill in writing and editing, and ability to express thought orally in a clear manner.

- Ability to work in a shared space with many distractions including but not limited to customer questions and animals in the office.

- Must have a flexible schedule and be available as needed.

- Able to lift and carry animals, equipment, and supplies in excess of 50 pounds.

- Valid Driver’s License.

- Passion for issues relating to animal welfare.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $45,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
