The Operational Engineering Department (N932) within the MITRE Intelligence Center leverages strong engineering and operational expertise to address our Sponsors' mission challenges by developing solutions that ensure success from tactical to enterprise levels. We create and implement cutting-edge engineering solutions, provide strategic vision, and offer data-driven recommendations that significantly enhance our Sponsors' missions.
Roles & Responsibilities:
The Operational Engineering Department is seeking a Lead Systems Engineer to support our sponsor’s unique, diverse, and evolving mission needs. Typical department project tasks include developing systems architecture documentation, use-cases, business requirements, writing technical requirements extrapolated from business processes, contributing to CONOPs development, and providing acquisition related knowledge and support. To support these sponsor needs, the selected candidate will be expected to perform or have knowledge of some of the following responsibilities:
Applying systems engineering skills to drive a holistic approach to systems development and design, while remaining flexible and adaptable to evolving sponsor needs and project requirements.
Advising government program managers in defining the context, problem space and vision to determine capabilities, priorities, road maps, and technology needs.
Collaborating and working as part of multi-disciplinary teams.
Designing or reviewing system architectures to connect interrelated systems and lead efforts to test, integrate, and deploy complex mission systems.
Conducting studies to map business/operational processes, identify technical gaps, formulate solutions, and help execute engineering solutions to improve mission outcomes.
Conducting requirement gathering activities with sponsors and other stakeholders to develop system and product level requirement statements.
Supporting a project as an individual contributor or as a project/task lead.
Applying knowledge and principles of acquisitions, including the development for Statements of Work (SOWs), Statements of Objectives (SOO), market research, acquisition strategies and plans, evaluation criteria, and/or related source selection documentation.
Basic Qualifications:
Applicants MUST hold an active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph to be considered.
Requires minimum of 8 years experience with a Bachelor’s degree; 6 years experience with a Master’s degree; 3 years experience with a Ph.D.; or an equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
Experience collecting and developing technical requirements to meet mission needs.
Ability to translate operational mission needs and business processes to effectively define technical requirements and technical artifacts.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
Excellent collaboration skills.
Ability to interact with sponsors, including helping to set the project direction, briefing results, and developing and presenting data driven and unbiased conclusions and recommendations.
Willingness to work at various sponsor locations in the Northern Virginia area as needed.
This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site presence.
Preferred Qualifications:
Mission knowledge of intelligence operations, the intelligence lifecycle, and intelligence systems.
Demonstrated experience and capability to advise the federal government on all aspects of the acquisition life cycle to implement and adopt innovative acquisition solutions.
Knowledge of systems architecture modeling, systems design, and development.
Expertise in researching, identifying, integrating, operationalizing, and training on technologies, including, but not limited to the following topics: secure communication protocols, mobile devices, networking, AI, and cybersecurity.
