The

Line Lead H6 - Weld Specialist

will lead employees in the weld areas, model policies and procedures; and recommend improvements in production methods, equipment, operating procedures and working conditions. When performing direct labor functions the Line Lead H6 - Weld Specialist is responsible to independently use multiple semi-automatic welding processes and equipment to efficiently weld and fabricate various components for NLM products. The Line Lead H6 Weld Specialist will produce quality weldments, of the highest difficulty, requiring welds at a minimum of 30” in all positions, on stainless and carbon steel materials. Production of welds with excellent aesthetics in various joint configurations is required. The H6 Weld Specialist will fabricate quality weldments of the highest difficulty, in blueprint comprehension and process of building, requiring excellent craftsmanship.

This position requires both direct labor producing product and indirect labor consisting of administrative, training, quality or other duties. The ratio between the direct and indirect labor will likely vary.

Looks ahead at upcoming schedules and recognizes potential needs in parts, equipment, and labor resources and provides status updates to supervisor.

Directs/Leads training of others as needed. Mentors others while following and modeling company policies.

Recommends measures to control inventory and labor costs, improve efficiency, and leads efforts to implement those measures.

Inspects completed welds and performs quality checks on work completed, conducts root cause analysis, and implements solutions; which may include re-training and/or coaching.

Delegates work assignments to other employees as necessary.

Performs on-going safety walk-through and audits of work area to ensure that employees are aware of all company safety rules and procedures, and enforces all safety policies.

Facilitates maintenance requests and ensures operator PM’s are done to standard.

Independently joins and fabricates metal by applying appropriate welding techniques.

Independently interprets blueprints, specifications, diagrams or schematics to ensure products meet quality standards.

Requirements

Qualifications and Essential Skills:

High School diploma or GED equivalent required. College coursework, including an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in business or technical field, preferred.

Two years prior Lead experience in a manufacturing environment strongly preferred. In absence of prior supervisory experience, candidate should be able to demonstrate strong leadership skills as evidenced through successfully leading projects or other activities.

Basic computer skills are required; must be able to use computer systems to look-up information, clock-in/clock-out, and report work activities. Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook is preferred.

Ability to read blueprints.

Good math skills are required; ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Ability to read a tape measure up to 1/32”.

ERP experience is a plus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration, and occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. Employee may be exposed to hazardous chemicals. Employee is required to wear steel toed shoes, gloves, and safety glasses. The noise level in the plant shop environment is moderately loud. In addition to standard PPE, welders are required to wear a welding helmet and may be required to wear leather clothing and ear plugs. Handles hazardous waste according to company policy and participates in annual hazardous waste training.
