PurposeUnder the supervision of the Senior Director for Residential Experience and Housing, the Director for Residential Living and Staff Development provides the day-to-day operational direction for the student residential experience. They also provide strategic leadership and direction for the student learning experience, designing and evaluating outcomes for student learning. In addition, this position collaborates to provide support, development, and training to the staff they directly and indirectly supervise. Finally, this position guides the staff in response to issues, crisis, and concerns in the residence halls and apartments, including making recommendations to enhance processes and procedures.

Responsibilities

Supervise, train, develop, and evaluate the Assistant Directors for Residence Life for each area of campus—Halls and Apartments. Supervise Residential Education, to develop, implement, and evaluate residential education. Conduct team meetings and one-on-ones. Indirectly supervise Admin Associate/Assistants, Complex/Community Coordinators, Graduate Assistants, and Student Staff positions. Provide resources and direction to help staff be successful.

Provide support and guidance to residence living staff on developing and sustaining a safe and engaging living-learning environment in the residence halls. Assist the Senior Director of Residential Experience and Housing in developing and implementing vision and strategic planning for residential education. Support student engagement by attending events and learning activities, meeting with residence hall student groups, and participating in initiatives that enhance the residential experience for students.

Direct professional staff development and training for all direct and indirect reports, including Assistant/Associate Directors, Managers, Complex Coordinators, Graduate Assistants, and Administrative Assistants/Associates. Set clear development goals and methods to measure those goals, and assess progress. Design opportunities for team building. Collaborate with Human Resources on policies, processes, and trainings for staff. Maintain efficient and timely process for assisting and supporting supervisors with staff training and development.

Provide support and guidance to residence hall staff for crisis response, policies and procedures, safety protocols, and contingency planning. Support staff with major concerns and issues involving students, parents, and guests. Direct staff in managing day-to-day concerns and issues involving students, parents, and guests. In support of the Senior Director for Residential Experience and Housing, serve as the back-up liaison to external offices for issues in the residence halls and apartments. Support the staff in the residence halls and apartments during crises and oversee contingency planning, including being present in the building for complex incidents.

Prepare, monitor, and evaluate budgets associated with residential education, halls, and apartments. Participate in centralized Residence Life planning and efforts. Serve on departmental, divisional, and university meetings and committees as needed. Serve in the absence of the Senior Director for Residential Experience and Housing. Serve as a departmental representative for external searches. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Masters degree in Higher Education or related field.

5 years of full-time experience in housing or student affairs.

5 years of experience supervising staff, including 3 years supervising full-time professional staff.

Experience working in residence life/housing.

Experience with crisis or emergency response.

Demonstrated knowledge of Residential Learning.

High level of proficiency in customer service, communication, and writing skills.

Experience collaborating with all levels of staff ranging from executive to line level.

Preferred Qualifications

Education, training, or credentialing post Masters degree including anything in progress.

5 or more years of experience supervising a team of full-time professional staff.

3 or more years of crisis or emergency management in populations greater than 2,000.

Experience working in multiple levels of University Housing.

Experience working with a Curricular Approach to student learning.

Experience working with University Student Organizations.

Experience leading a multi office initiative in a University setting.

Experience with leading professional and student staff training and development.

Salary Range$100,000+ depending on qualifications

Work Shift

Monday - Friday, 8:00AM - 5:00PM. Hours and days may vary depending on business needs to include occasional after-hours work, nights, and weekends.
