This is a full-time (38 hours) salaried exempt position that provides strategic and operational management of all HR activities for the Town of Gorham. The Human Resources Director position is responsible for the overall administration, coordination, and evaluation of the human resources function including, but not limited to, benefit administration, classification and compensation, recruitment and selection, risk management, labor relations and collective bargaining, policy development and revision, training and development, and records management.

Compensation & Benefits

This position is eligible for a comprehensive package of pay, benefits, and paid time off. The Town currently pays 90% of the premium cost for all health insurance coverage levels and provides a Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) to help cover the cost of out-of-pocket medical expenses, including deductible and coinsurance. Individuals covered by an alternative health plan are eligible for an annual medical buyout in lieu of coverage (currently $2,443 - $5,480 based on coverage eligibility). In addition to a choice between two excellent health insurance plans, a 457(b) deferred compensation retirement plan with a 7.5% employer match, and paid vacation, sick leave, and 13 paid holidays per year, employees have access to dental, vision, medical and dependent care Flexible Spending Accounts, life insurance, short-term disability, IRAs, tuition reimbursement, and more.

The pay range for Grade 7 positions begins at $83,980 per year; however, actual salary will depend on experience, qualifications, and budget availability.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Minimum Qualifications

A minimum of five (5) years progressively responsible generalist human resources management experience required. Bachelor’s degree in human resources, public administration, or applicable field required. Graduate degree preferred. Professional human resources certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP) strongly preferred. Prior human resources experience in the public sector strongly preferred. Any equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
