About This Role:

The MS Associate Principal of Culture, Climate and Athletics/Clubs serves as the Principal’s designee to deliver on the community’s call for improved learning experiences and increased academic achievement in the district’s middle schools. The MS Associate Principal will serve as the lead administrator in the Middle School programs in all areas of Athletics/Clubs to ensure equitable access and opportunities for all students while coordinating extracurricular athletics and clubs. The MS Associate Principal will assist and support in attracting, developing and retaining highly effective talent that can ensure universal student success and support of the district’s equity commitments as expressed in Board Policy 7:12: Ensuring Racial and Educational Equity.

The MS Associate Principal's primary role is that of an instructional leader with a focus on instructional delivery of curriculum and the daily integration of social/emotional supports at the middle school.

The MS Associate Principal plays a critical role in engaging students, staff and community in the school transformation process, with a primary focus on delivery of curriculum and instruction with an equitable mindset.

Responsibilities:

Support excellent core instruction through the coaching and development of teachers.

Assist the school principal in the creation of systems to ensure a smooth transition of 5th grade students and their families to 6th grade with specific emphasis on students participating in extracurricular athletics.

Assist the school principal in the creation of systems to ensure a smooth transition of 8th grade students and their families to high school with specific emphasis on students participating in athletics.

Collaborate with the MS Associate Principal of Teaching, Learning and the Arts in the daily supervision of students.

Ensure the Student Code of Conduct and the Effective Student Behavior Handbook are utilized effectively to support student learning.

Incorporate the Illinois Performance Standards for School Leaders to effectively guide professional practice to ensure a positive learning environment for all students and staff.

Essential Role Responsibilities:

Collaborate with middle school administrators and building staff to create a cohesive and seamless educational journey for all students.

Integrate athletic participation into daily instructional opportunities for all students.

Implement and use the Illinois Performance Standards for School Leaders.

Build staff capacity in the operational alignment of district safety and restorative practices.

Develop effective tools for assessing school-based team leadership capacity and providing differentiated supports that result in improved performance.

Strengthen parental participation and engagement to improve parental access to vital information, resources and support.

Allocate instructional supports and content effectively.

Design and lead professional development sessions for school leaders and staff.

Facilitate the creation of professional learning communities enabling best practice sharing and collaboration among school leaders and teachers.

Monitor school progress through feedback from students, parents, staff, directors, superintendent, and the Board of Education.

Develop long and short-term plans/programs and strategies to improve student achievement.

Lead, coordinate, and serve as an internal coach for the culture and climate team.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Serve on committees and participate in projects at the request of the superintendent.

Content Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

Knowledge of PERA

Knowledge of Restorative Practices

Knowledge of teacher evaluation practices.

Knowledge of Illinois School Code with regard to Principal evaluation.

Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations governing administration of personnel in the public school setting.

EDUCATION, CREDENTIALS, and/or EXPERIENCE:

Appropriate Illinois Administrative Licensure Professional Educator License (PEL) with a General Administrative endorsement.

Master’s degree in education or a related field with an emphasis in curriculum and Instruction preferred.

5+ years of classroom teaching experience at the middle school level.

Successfully completed all PERA module designations required to evaluate teachers.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires the performance of light work—which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. The position includes close visual acuity, frequent talking, hearing, walking and standing, occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. The job is performed in non-hazardous environments and a clean atmosphere. The position requires indoor and outdoor supervision during varying temperatures and climatic conditions.
