Position Overview
The University of North Texas at Dallas invites applications for the position of Senior Admission Counselor. This position is responsible for varied higher level administrative support, but still routine in nature. The Senior Admissions Counselor is responsible for programs that focus on recruiting and enrolling college-ready students for the University. Primary focus of position moves from primarily recruitment to developing and planning recruitment and yield activities and programs. This position will use the following methods: identifying and building a pool of prospective undergraduate students within an assigned recruitment territory, developing a data-driven recruitment plan, coordinating travel schedules, maintaining an aggressive communication campaign with prospective students and families. Under the supervision of the Director of Admissions, the Senior Admissions Counselor assesses, develops, and suggests office processes and procedures to ensure work is effectively and accurately completed by the admissions recruitment team. A Senior Admissions Counselor will also facilitate the training of all new and current entry-level admissions counselors.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree and three years of experience in recruiting, academic advising, academic counseling, student services, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of professional standards and regulations.
Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, statutes, regulations, codes, and standards related to the area of responsibility.
Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, University policies and procedures.
Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
Skill in public speaking and delivering presentations to individuals and groups.
Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
Skill in using computer applications including spreadsheet, database, and word processing software, including Microsoft Office Suite and the use of a CRM.
Skill in collecting and analyzing complex data.
Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
Ability to work collaboratively and build strategic relations with colleagues, coworkers, constituents, and volunteers.
Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently with moderate supervision.
Ability to multitask in a busy office environment with multiple interruptions, including managing a high volume of emails and phone calls.
Professional, motivated, self-directed with the ability to communicate enthusiastically with diverse populations in a positive, courteous manner.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a university admission department or similar department.
Masters degree in a related field.
Working experience with youth and diverse populations, admissions, and recruitment or higher education.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and video conferencing platforms (Zoom and MS Teams).
Experience utilizing innovative technology such as a CRM solution (i.e. Salesforce) is preferred.
Familiarity with database systems such as Ellucian Banner, PeopleSoft, or some other type of student information database product utilized by institutions of higher learning is preferred.
Experience utilizing Perceptive Content imaging software or a similar product.
Effective public speaking and presentation experience.
Experience with communication campaigns (social media, texting, and direct mail among others).
Program and territory management experience.
Strong people skills and a background in customer service, sales, marketing, and higher education.
Ability to multitask and adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
Ability to work a flexible schedule beyond normal office hours, including some early mornings and late evenings as well as occasional weekends.
Bilingual English/Spanish.
Required License/Registration/Certifications
Valid driver's license.
Job Duties:
Plan, implement, and assess comprehensive data-driven student recruitment strategies and programs that are aligned with best practices to improve student engagement and yield.
Execute exceptional customer service through consistent follow-up (phone calls and all correspondence) with prospective students and their families, current and existing school partnerships to provide student enrollment support and troubleshoot enrollment barriers. Provides general knowledge about admissions, Texas Success Initiative (TSI), financial aid, scholarships, support services, advising/registration, housing and orientation.
Track, analyze, and report statistical data to measure effectiveness and impact of recruitment activities based on key performance metrics.
Develop and refine recruitment resources, processes and tools. Continuously stays up-to-date on University revisions and topics related to higher education. Facilitates the training of new and current entry-level admissions counselors.
Work collaboratively with school partners, agencies, and internal stakeholders to lead strategic recruitment and admission initiatives (such as recruitment programs, recruitment visits, and special campus events) to enhance relations, university brand, and recruitment opportunities with prospective student groups. Participates in recruitment networking efforts with relevant stakeholders, while serving as the primary liaison to administrators, teachers/instructors, nonprofit organizations, parents, and students.
Review academic credentials of students in order to determine eligibility of applicants in accordance with official university admissions policies, state guidelines and connects prospective students with university resources. Provide pre-advising for prospective transfer students utilizing unofficial transcript evaluations and/or online transfer credit evaluation technology.
Perform data entry via the university's CRM and other databases relevant to student records for accurate recordkeeping of all recruitment activity to ensure department goals are met and compliance with records management, privacy, and office procedures.
Contribute to on-campus and off-campus events related to recruitment, admissions and enrollment yield such as campus preview days, open house events, campus visits and tours, Admitted Student events, and new student orientations.
Contribute to the overall success of the Student Access Success Division and the University by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Work Schedule:
Monday- Friday, 8am-5pm.
Ability to work a flexible schedule beyond normal office hours, including some early mornings and late evenings as well as weekends.
