APeX/Epic Principal Trainer- Ambulatory

Applies skills as a seasoned clinical applications professional to projects of medium size at all levels of complexity, or portions of large projects.

Health IT Training is responsible for all aspects of the Electronic Health Record (EPIC: APeX- Advancing Patient-Centered Excellence) for UCSF hospitals, practices, affiliates, and community partners. The APeX/Epic - Trainer will work in collaboration with the APeX-Epic application teams and clinical/business operations to develop curriculum to provide training support to a variety of end users, including front-end users, revenue cycle, physician, nurses, other users. This position will focus on training and supporting Resolute Professional Billing. Trainers will work in multiple locations including all UCSF Medical Center locations, Benioff Children’s Hospitals-Oakland and San Francisco, the UCSF campus, and community affiliate partners spread throughout the Bay Area.

The APeX Trainer must be Epic proficient/credentialed or certified to support one or more of the following APeX applications:

Certified in an Epic application; Ambulatory, ClinDoc, or Orders preferred.

Other applications depending on business needs, (list below)

Certified in Epic Training, Environments, and Documentation (TED)

Certified in Epic Curriculum

The Apex Trainer may also achieve UCSF credentialing in one or more of the following training areas in order to support ongoing new hire training and other training initiatives:

Epic Clinical Applications: Ambulatory, Ambulatory Willow, Anesthesia, Optime, Orders, ClinDoc, Stork, Willow, Beacon, Kaleidoscope, Radiant, HOD, Home Health

Epic Revenue Cycle Applications: ADT, Cadence/ Prelude, HB/PB, HIM

Other Epic applications as needed

Department Description

Health IT and Health Informatics are responsible for all aspects of the clinical and business software applications of UCSF Health hospitals, practices, affiliates, and community partners. This includes the Electronic Health Record (APeX), which supports the clinical, revenue cycle, and clinical operational functions of the health system and its affiliates, and approximately 95 other software applications involved in patient care and operations.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in health care information technology, computer science, or related area, and/or equivalent combination of experience/training.

Three years of related work experience.

Epic certification or achievement of Epic credentialing in the required application within 6 months of hire.

Broad and/or in-depth knowledge of 1-2 areas of focus in clinical applications specialty area(s). Knowledge of systems and functions, including design, development, implementation, user support and training, maintenance, quality assurance, and system testing and evaluation.

Strong problem-resolution skills, with the ability to quickly diagnose problems, and develop, test, and implement appropriate and effective solutions in a timely manner.

Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively train, support, and work collaboratively with users of clinical information systems at all professional and technical levels.

Detail oriented, with proven organizational skills and the ability to effectively manage time, prioritize tasks, and see projects through to completion on deadline.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information and instructions to all levels of clinical application users in a specific, clear, and concise manner.

Strong analytical skills and knowledge in documentation and reporting, with the ability to design and execute tests, analyze system performance data, and produce substantive reports and analyses.

Ability to work with senior staff and managers, serving as a technical resource and providing advice and counsel on issues of functionality, efficiency, cost-effectiveness, policy, and performance.

Preferred Qualifications

Clinical License of RN, MA or other Tech license/certification.

License/Certification

Epic certification or achievement of Epic credentialing in the required application within 6 months of hire.
