GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:Summarize the nature and level of work performed.
The Division of Infectious Diseases at Massachusetts General Hospital is seeking to hire a full-time (100% FTE) Sr. Data Scientist to work on studies focused on human papillomavirus (HPV) infections/cervical cancer and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) among people living in low-and-middle-income settings. This position will be responsible for leading epidemiological studies and statistical analyses focused on elucidating cervical cancer natural history, evaluating primary and secondary cervical cancer prevention methods, and accessing the interactions between HPV and HIV infections.
Under the supervision of Dr. Ruanne Barnabas, Chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases, the Sr. Data Scientist will work closely with faculty and staff within MGH, with departments and research groups at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, and with international collaborators. As a Sr. Data Scientist, you will contribute to research study design, data analysis, scientific information dissemination through conference presentations and publications, training, and leading and/or mentoring junior staff. This position requires the ability to meet project deadlines and research objectives, work independently with minimal supervision, and collaborate effectively with domestic and international researchers, clinicians, and data analysts.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Indicate key areas of responsibility, major job duties, special projects and key objectives for this position.These items should be evaluated throughout the year and included in the written annual evaluation.
Oversight of Data Team and Data Reporting
Independently conducts epidemiological and statistical analyses and participate in reciprocal research projects.Plans, develops, coordinates, and directs new and existing data systems for projects related to HPV, cervical cancer, and HIVSupervises, coordinates, and reviews the work of study staff, research consultants, and undergraduate and graduate studentsTrack deliverables and plan work to meet expected timelines.Writes conference abstracts and contributes to scientific manuscripts.Supports grant writing by conducting analyses for preliminary data and writing statistical analysis plans for proposed research.Writes clinical trial statistical analysis plans (SAPs) with the supervision of the clinical trial statistician.Conduct analyses for the Data and Safety Monitoring Board (DSMB) meetings and write the first draft of DSMB reports.
Data Preparation
Develop and maintain study databases. May include laboratory and/or clinical datasets .Design and implement data quality control measures.Coordinate with staff and/or research study site on the design of data collection, quality control, data transfer, data management, and report generation, as needed.Advise on appropriate data collection tools; design and program data collection databases as needed.Provide timely and accurate responses to data queries.Generate periodic study and/or external reports in a timely and accurate manner.Provide documented datasets for analysis.Maintain a proactive and forward-thinking approach to data management and report generation.Work closely with investigators and operations team to understand project goals and execute reporting and queries to meet project timelines.
Data Analysis
Prepare tabular, graphical and statistical summary reports in support of investigator research and publication.Assist in writing papers and review them for correctness and completeness.Partner with research investigators, faculty, and staff to refine and execute plans to analyze study data that combines multiple laboratory and clinical datasets in support of investigator research and publication.Work closely with investigators to understand project goals and execute reporting and analysis to meet project timelines.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration
Collaborate closely with other computational scientists and medical professionals, such as physicians and researchers, to design and execute data analysis projects aimed at advancing HPV and HIV research.
Mentoring and Teaching
Provide guidance and mentorship to junior data analysts on the team, sharing your knowledge and expertise in data science techniques and methodologies.
Scientific Communication
Prepare manuscripts, abstracts, and presentations for scientific meetings, conveying the results of data analysis and research findings. This includes effectively communicating complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
