Positions in this function provide legal advice and services on issues concerning the rights, obligations, risks, and privileges of the Specialty Benefits business (which includes dental, vision, hearing, and financial protection) within UnitedHealthcare's Employer & Individual segment. Protect the organization's rights in contract negotiations, settlements, and litigation. Acquire deep knowledge of the industry and this particular business within UnitedHealth Group to best advise senior leaders and functional areas such as Sales, Operations, Finance, Clinical, Regulatory Affairs, and others. Provide a full range of legal advice and services and may specialize in one or more areas such as mergers and acquisitions, transactional work, commercial law, contracts law, benefit law, insurance law, regulatory and compliance.
Primary Responsibilities:Providing legal counsel on the following matters:
RFP reviews for potential new/renewal customersSupport for the sales/account management initiativesResolving customer issuesContract drafting/negotiationAntitrust issuesClinical initiativesProvider network issuesRegulatory matters

Required Qualifications:Juris Doctorate degree5+ years of legal experienceKnowledge of U.S., state contract, corporate health care and regulatory lawExperience with regulatory agencies and administrative experience with state insurance regulationsUnderstanding of health care benefit coverage and medical policy developmentProven success in collaborating across a matrixed business and legal environmentDemonstrated understanding of business problems related to assigned legal projectsAbility to evaluate and determine appropriate legal course of action to meet business unit needsAbility to build and maintain rapport with superiors, peers, subordinates, and external company contacts
Preferred Qualifications:Managed care legal experienceSolid understanding of health insurance and/or managed care industryWell-developed written and verbal communications skillsExcellent presentation skills

The salary range for this role is $104,700 to $190,400 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
