Summary

Fabricates, installs and maintains all signs and street markings in the city.Duties

Installs, maintains, operates and repairs all traffic equipment.Replaces damaged or weathered regulatory and guidance signs.Adds new, replaces or repaints all pavement markings and legends per the Manual On Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD Millennium Edition).Inventories and inspects signs and markings (twice annually) and develops work orders as needed.Fabricates , assembles and installs traffic signs, poles and street name signs per the Manual On Uniformed Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD Millennium Edition).Maintains records of work performed for historical and archive purposes.Assist the Signal crew in the assembly, installation and maintenance of electronic traffic control devices (i.e. signal lights, street lights, sensor loops and crosswalk lights).Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent with one to three years experience working in signage or repair.IMSA Work Zone Safety, IMSA Sign and Markings Technicians Level I license preferred.Must have a valid Texas driver's license (Class C) and a good driving record.Manual On Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) familiarity.Supplemental Information

Knowledge of technical manuals commonly utilized in the making and installation of signs, barricades and markings (MUTCD, etc.) Skill in spelling. Ability to read and understand written instructions, maps, diagrams, blueprints and schematic. Ability to read and spell street names. Skill in the use of various electric power tools including band saws, reciprocating saw, drill and drill press etc. Skill in operating various hand tools and gasoline powered equipment such as shovels, picks, sand blaster, pavement grinders, power washers, paint sprayers, thermoplastic application machines, sleeve driving machines and other hydraulic equipment. Skill at fabricating various signs using "Trafficad " software plotters and application roller machine.Ability to effectively communicate with fellow employees , management , citizens and the motoring public. Due to the nature of the position, flagging and hand signal communication is necessary.

Other RequirementsAbility to sit, stand, climb and drive a vehicle to and from various job sites within the city. Ability to bend, lift ( up to 94 lbs. ) stoop and climb ladders. Ability to operate utility lift (boom) truck for signal work. Ability and knowledge to work with paints, solvents and very hot thermoplastic material, which can be hazardous. Ability to understand and work with propane gas and the cylinders the contain propane. Ability to operate hand held propane fired portable pavement markings torch. Ability to understand and work around electrical equipment.
