BAE Systems is seeking an experienced Director of Systems Engineering to lead our work as a prime contractor on a high-profile U.S. Navy weapon system. Combined, these factors provide ample opportunity for professional growth and development for capable and talented individuals on our team.About the programOur organization has supported the U.S. Navy's Strategic Systems Program (SSP) continually since the program’s inception in the 1950s. SSP developed the first sea-based, underwater-launched Strategic Weapon System (SWS), a defense system that is truly critical to our national security. For more than six decades, SSP has maintained and upgraded this weapon system and we have been there every step of the way. The sea-based SWS is the ultimate stealthy weapon system and is the most important leg of the U.S. nuclear triad. With over 70% of our nation’s nuclear arsenal, its importance to maintaining world peace cannot be overstated. The development of the Columbia class, the most advanced nuclear-armed submarine ever designed, as well as the design of the next missile system is underway and will begin to be rolled out over the next decade. The Navy projects this system to be operational through 2084, meaning the program will have a total lifespan of more than 120 years. This is a truly unique program and BAE Systems employees on this program understand they are part of an important legacy.Position Description / Responsibilities:Customer partnership and relationship management across a suite of 30 government and military customers up through SES and O-6 level Navy customer leadership.Leadership and functional management of a team of 350 engineers, scientists, technologists, analysts, and support staff.P&L and full lifecycle program management across two US Navy contracts that total $600m in ceiling and deliver $100m in annual revenue.Execution and continuous improvement of engineering capabilities (people, processes, and infrastructure) including requirements management, architecture management, interface management, system integration, system verification, modeling & simulation, system test, data management, configuration management, software & tools development, system operation, system maintenance & troubleshooting, system safety, system security, and information technology.Delivering year over year orders, revenue, and profit organic growth on assigned programs and contracts.Supporting business development activities that lead to the capture of new programs and contracts with US Navy customers.Required Education, Experience, & SkillsMinimum education and related/relevant work experience required: BS Degree in Engineering or related field and 15 years of related/relevant work experience.15 years of experience and a track record of success in executing large, complex programs including planning and directing execution to meet contractual requirements and deliverables.15 years of experience leading/managing large technical and program teams (500+) through all phases of the project and system lifecycles.Excellent written and oral communication skills with experience presenting to senior leaders and customers.Strong customer focus and track record of success building long-term customer relationships.Strong leadership, coaching and mentoring skills with the ability to achieve results through others.Business acumen mindset, awareness within and outside the business, and ability to develop and execute organic and inorganic growth strategies.Experience working with multi-discipline cross-functional teams, utilizing strong communication and collaboration skills.Proficient in the application of Earned Value Management.Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment and make sound decisions while complying with policies, procedures, appropriate principles and applicable state and federal laws and regulations.Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills10 years of experience working with US Navy Strategic Systems Programs in a senior leadership role.MS Degree in Systems Engineering or CSEP/ASEP certification.Project/Program Management certification.Pay InformationFull-Time Salary Range: $147300 - $250400. Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures.
