Join our team in Birmingham, AlabamaJob DescriptionThe Youth and Aquatics Program Director is responsible for developing, administering and overseeing all facets of youth, aquatic, sports, and teen programming while enhancing the overall member experience. The position is responsible for the planning, marketing, registration, record-keeping, and delivery of quality programs while maintaining compliance and risk standards. In addition, this position is responsible for growing the number of participants and meeting the fiscal growth goals of the branch.

Qualifications

The Youth and Aquatics Program Director must gain a working knowledge of YMCA operations and a belief in its mission.

Proven knowledge and experience in programming specific to aquatics, youth, teens, and families.

Ability and passion to provide a safe environment for all.

Working knowledge necessary to successfully manage the department budget.

Ability to develop, implement, and grow innovative programs that enhance member experience.

Ability to interact with and communicate with a diverse population of individuals, including program participants, staff, volunteers, and donors.

Ability to recruit, orient, supervise, train, evaluate, and recognize program staff and volunteers adhering to YMCA guidelines.

Successful completion of background and Child Abuse and Neglect screening.

Acquire and maintain the following certifications within 30 days of start date via YMCA: American Red Cross, American Heart Association and American Health and Safety Institute (ASHI): 1. First Aid/CPR/AED (valid 2 years unless otherwise noted).

Requisite Online Training Modules (completed prior to start date and repeated annually).

Acquire and maintain lifeguard, LGI and CPR/First Aid Instructor certifications.

Essential Functions

Program Development and Management:

Develop, implement, and manage all aspects of aquatic, youth, and teen programming.

Innovate and facilitate programs such as Leaders Club, Middle School Madness, School’s Out Camps, and Swim Lessons.

Collaborate with the Regional Sports Director to facilitate and promote Youth Sports programming.

Promote and grow aquatic-specific programs, including Swim Team and Intro to Swim Team.

Collaboration and Coordination:

Partner with the Member and Wellness Engagement Director on joint initiatives such as Summer Day Camp, the 7th-grade membership initiative, and enrichment programming.

Work closely with Aquatic, Youth and Sports, and Childcare Cabinets to develop and implement marketing plans in coordination with the Association Marketing Department.

Staff Leadership and Development:

Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and develop staff in the Aquatics, Summer Day Camp, School’s Out Camp, and Youth departments.

Ensure that all staff maintain current certifications and adhere to YMCA guidelines.

Teach lifeguard and Swim Lesson Instructor training as needed to meet staffing requirements and maintain program quality.

Compliance and Risk Management:

Ensure all programming complies with risk management, quality standards, and child abuse safety policies.

Maintain high standards of cleanliness and upkeep in all program areas, including pump rooms and storage areas.

Financial Oversight:

Prepare, monitor, and manage the department budget to achieve financial goals.

Monitor payments and ensure program fees are collected prior to the start of programs.

Member Engagement and Outreach:

Create a welcoming and safe environment for all members, modeling relationship-building skills in interactions.

Attend and engage in branch special events, being present and available for programs, including nights and weekends.

Campaign and Leadership Participation:

Assist with Annual Campaign and empower staff to participate actively in the campaign.

Program Evaluation and Improvement:

Develop goals and objectives for the departments that align with the branch and association’s strategic plan.

Maintain records to evaluate and measure the effectiveness of assigned responsibilities and make improvements as needed.
