JOB SUMMARY:Saginaw Valley State University is proud of its profound regional, state, and global impact, and is currently seeking an ambitious, innovative, and student-focused leader to become its next Director of International Admissions to help advance the University’s international reach. SVSU is uniquely poised to significantly grow its vibrant and engaged international student population (approximately 250 international students are currently enrolled at the university, a number that is increasing term-over-term, post-pandemic). The Director of International Admissions develops international enrollment goals and implements strategic plans to meet these goals in alignment with and supportive of the Strategic Enrollment Management Plan for Saginaw Valley State University.

Reporting to the Vice President for Enrollment Management, the Director leads at the tactical and strategic levels by developing the international recruitment strategy in collaboration with the Office of Admissions, the Office of International Programs (OIP), and other SVSU teams and divisions. The Director oversees all operational-level business processes related to international recruitment and enrollment for international undergraduate and graduate students and collaborates with SVSU’s five academic colleges to facilitate recruitment and successful enrollment of students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership and management of the Office of International Admissions.

Development of robust, updated, innovative student recruitment strategies and plans by geographic market and student type.

Management of international recruitment agencies, including contracts, payments, compliance, and outcomes.

As needed, directly review and provide admissions decisions on international student applications, which includes credential review and evaluation.

Oversee and direct the development of systems and technologies that support student recruitment and enrollment, particularly Slate (CRM), with the goal of providing responsive and individualized student support through the admissions cycle.

Ensure an effective communication plan that is proactive and reactive/responsive to international student needs with the goal of maximizing conversion rates along the admissions process and student lifecycle.

Working with other stakeholders, conduct data-informed regular reviews of international student admissions criteria and best practices; modify policies and requirements as needed to ensure institutional compliance, maximized qualified student attraction, enrollment, retention, and success.

Supervision of application processing and review to ensure compliance with program, university, state, and federal policies and regulations. This includes evaluation of foreign academic credentials, English language proficiency, documents proving initial visa eligibility, and other admissions materials.

Create and provide regular reports and responsive analytics to internal and external (when appropriate) constituencies.

Intentionally develop a student-centric culture with clearly defined shared values that align with the university’s mission.

Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

General supervision is received from the Vice President of Enrollment Management

SUPERVISION EXERCISED :

Functional supervision is exercised over an International Recruiter

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Minimum of five years of experience in international student recruitment and admissions, including immigration advising.

Familiarity with CRMs like Slate, and other technology platforms used to manage the application process and support student communication, marketing, engagement, and yield.

Ability to set and achieve goals in a team setting with an ambitious and collaborative approach.

Experience managing international recruiting agencies.

Demonstrated knowledge of immigration regulations pertaining to international students and scholars (F and J visa categories) required.

Strong intercultural communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.

Excellent organizational and leadership abilities, with a commitment to student success and support.

Familiarity with international education trends and best practices.

Experience in program development, budget management, and strategic planning.

Ability to work collaboratively with campus stakeholders and external partners to achieve university goals and objectives.

Experience and ability to positively interact with a diverse campus community.

Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodations.

PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree in a related field.

Proficiency in a second language and/or experience living, working or studying abroad is preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Duties are generally performed inside and not exposed to adverse conditions.

Some weeknights and weekends, including intermittent travel, will be required.
