Position Summary:

The Director of Finance works independently, reporting directly to the CEO. In this position, you would be responsible for preparation of financial statements, creating AJE's and monthly closing entries, comparative analysis of financial reporting, reconciling bank accounts, preparation of budgets, and maintaining the general ledger. You would also be involved in strategic and operational projects and work closely with the leadership team.

Essential Job Functions:

Prepares the annual budget and monitors departmental spending. Prepares a monthly budget report for the CEO and department heads.

Responsible for the operation of the financial accounting and reporting system.

Facilitates and ensures fidelity to donor designations.

Forecasts financial results while overseeing the budgets.

Performs regular financial analysis.

Manages the annual audit and preparation of the IRS Form 990. Acts as a main contact with the audit team.

Conducts month-end and year-end closings and prepares financial statements and reports.

Maintains and updates depreciation schedules.

Reconciles monthly bank statements, including investment statements.

Maintains General Ledgers including Accruals, Expenses, Reconciliations to POS reports, Journal Entries, and Sales and Use Tax filings.

Administers agency property/liability, workers’ compensation, and other business insurance coverages.

Monitors cash flow to advise and assist the CEO in the management of assets and investments.

Processes bi-weekly payroll in payroll system.

Analyzes employee benefits, assists in benefit renewal conversations, and manages benefit deductions in payroll.

Administers employee 401k benefit plan.

Oversees Accounts Payables.

Other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Preferred Talents:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Experience with Microsoft programs and spreadsheets.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Experience managing a team.

Experience with understanding POS systems, preferred.

Ability to work independently with little supervision.

Strong desire to support the Lincoln Children’s Zoo’s mission and vision.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business strongly preferred.

Knowledge of applicable state and federal tax laws and nonprofit accounting principles and standards.

Proficient in a variety of computer programs including Excel, Outlook, and Quickbooks software.

Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in accounting.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Leadership/project management experience required.

Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality.

Ability to be respectful, approachable, and team-oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
