As a member of the Memorial Hospital of Carbon County’s administrative team, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will participate in the financial decision-making processes necessary for the successful attainment of the hospital's mission in addition to maintaining an awareness of changes in healthcare matters that could have an impact on the financial success of the hospital. We are seeking an experienced CFO that will be a working Director with a hands-on approach to daily operations within the organization.
This role requires relocation to the Rawlins, WY area.
Work Experience, Education, and Certifications:
Licensure/Certification/Registration:
MBA or CPA preferred
Education:
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience:
A minimum of five years of CFO experience within a Critical Access Hospital environment preferred, but not required.
Previous experience with Not-For-Profit hospital setting preferred, but not required.
Experience with leading the financial audit and cost report process.
Manager experience required and must be proficient in written and verbal communications.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for the overall financial operations of the critical access facility including general accounting, budget preparation and management, external audits, tax reporting, financial planning and analysis and activities within the organization, Medicare and Medicaid reporting, and management of department directors for Accounting, Revenue Cycle services – to include billing, collections, access management, coding, and managed care, Materials Management, Health Information Management, Case Management, and Information Technology.
Responsible for the administrative aspects of leading the department/team to include budgeting, time approvals, staff evaluations and expense approvals. Works with system management to develop and implement policies and procedures, short- and long-range goals, and objectives and plans.
Provides financial leadership to hospital managers, directors, and officers that will enroll support, create ownership of goals, and encourage active participation in decisions that impact the hospital.
Ensures the hospital meets necessary financial regulatory and compliance requirements.
Leads the development of operational and capital budgets in support of the hospital's strategic plan and assists the CEO in the identification and development of strategic plans for new services that generate additional sources of profitable revenue – contributing financial expertise to include analyses of service demand, resource availability, and project feasibility.
Manages costs by continually seeking data that will identify opportunities and take action to eliminate non-value costs in conjunction with the hospital's Administrative Team.
Prepares cash flow and budget variance analyses.
Monitors, interprets, and analyzes hospital financial performance including trending of key financial metrics with comparison to industry benchmarks, investigates unfavorable trends and comparisons, develops actions to address unfavorable findings, and monitors action plan(s) completion conclusion.
Analyzes areas in planning, promoting and conducting organization-wide performance improvement activities.
Ensures the timely and accurate preparation of monthly financial statements and reports, and presentation of these statements and reports to the Board of Trustees ensuring Board understanding of the hospital's financial performance and position as well as communication of any key issues and status of plans to correct/address such issues.
Monitors effective revenue cycle processes to keep patient accounts receivable at a targeted level contributing to optimization of cash flow.
Represents the hospital at meetings including medical staff, hospital board of director meetings as well as relevant community meetings as needed.
Participates in the hospital's monthly operation reviews as well as participating in corporate office meetings as deemed necessary.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills, plus interpersonal skills.
Strong knowledge and understanding of the Revenue Cycle.
Significant knowledge of CAH, financial planning, accounting, compliance, and reporting.
Experience including strategic oversight with an emphasis on financial reporting analysis, cash flow management, revenue cycle knowledge and problem-solving skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Responsible for the administrative aspects of leading departments to include budgeting, time approvals, staff evaluations and expense approvals.
Demonstrated leadership ability, team management, and interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with hospital staff and community.
Requires a high degree of tact, discretion, accuracy and confidentiality in dealing within the hospital as well as community as well as strong public relations.
Ability to motivate and inspire team members to achieve optimal results while maintaining a high level of employee engagement and satisfaction.
Demonstrated ability to cope with and manage change, maintain relationships with emotional maturity and self-motivation.
Working Conditions:
Typical office surroundings or good working conditions with clean environment containing adequate light, heat, air and workspace. One disagreeable element may be present to a very small degree.
