Responsibilities

Are you passionate about maintaining and expanding state-of-the-art labs that enable development and testing of complex embedded control systems? Do you enjoy working hands-on with hardware and software, ensuring the smooth operation of critical lab environments? If so, Mainspring Energy has an exciting opportunity for an Embedded System Lab Manager to oversee and enhance our embedded systems labs, which are integral to the development and testing of our cutting-edge Linear Generator technology.

In this role, you will maintain existing embedded system labs and create new ones. The labs include many components from the embedded system, including Linux computers, microcontrollers, and some motors, valves, relays, and sensors from the complete generator product. There is a balance between including more hardware and lab complexity.

Maintain and expand lab environments, including networked computers (single-board Linux and microcontrollers) and connected system components such as relays, motors, and valves.Act as lab owner to keep embedded devices and other critical lab equipment operational, ensuring all devices are programmed and maintained as needed.Reboot and troubleshoot machines, ensuring consistent uptime and availability for testing and development.Procure necessary equipment and resources to support ongoing development, testing, and operations.Maintain organization of lab spaces, implementing "5S" or similar methodologies for ongoing maintenance, and handle safe disposal of electronic waste.Physically assemble test equipment, including racks, low voltage power relays, jumpers, and communications equipment (Ethernet/serial).Collaborate with TPM/IT teams to expand lab resources and support remote workers, including performing manual tests and reconfiguring equipment.Act as the onsite point of contact for lab operations, addressing safety/security concerns.Support system administration tasks such as flashing operating systems, deploying software and firmware, and performing basic equipment troubleshooting.Coordinate the use of lab resources, resolving conflicts and identifying alternative solutions to support a diverse set of engineering projects.Remotely connect to and administer Linux systems.Utilize process and procedure to maintain equipment integrity with diverse user needs.Qualifications

Strong understanding of embedded systems hardware, including power relays, communication interfaces, microcontrollers, networked Linux computers, and test equipment setup with proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues, such as basic network connectivity checks and device imaging.Excellent communication skills, capable of collaborating with cross-functional teams and supporting remote workers with lab-related tasks.Detail-oriented and proactive, with a passion for maintaining high standards in lab organization and equipment upkeep.Bachelors degree in engineering or information technology with controls, IoT or embedded focus and two years of work experience

The Bay Area salary for this role is $115k-$132k base + pre-IPO stock options + benefits. This position is on-site in Menlo Park, CA. The salary will be adjusted based on the experience of the employee.

The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include location, relevant prior experience and/or education, or particular skills and expertise. New hires joining the company tend to be paid within the starting base pay range noted above, with opportunities to increase pay over time based on development of additional skills, competencies, and company-specific knowledge.
