The Social and Environmental Determinants for Health Equity (DHE) Department leads intersectoral, strategic and collaborative efforts at the regional, subregional and country levels, enabling countries to reduce health inequities, promote health and well-being, address social determinants of health, integrate equity, human rights, gender and interculturality into the public health agenda, and address the threats of climate change.DESCRIPTION OF DUTIESUnder the general supervision of the Director, Social and Environmental Determinants for Health Equity (DHE) and the direct supervision of the Unit Chief, Health Promotion and Social Determinants of Health (DHE/HP), the incumbent is responsible for, but not necessarily limited to, the following assigned duties:Provide expert technical guidance and facilitate the integration of intersectoral collaboration and community engagement as essential approaches to addressing social determinants and promoting health equity.Develop technical support and advice to Member States to implement a health-in-all-policies and inter-sectoral approaches to improve health and reduce health inequities.Create tools and resources to enhance the capacity of Member States and PAHO staff to advocate for and promote community empowerment and participation.Develop tools and instruments for strengthening, monitoring, and evaluating intersectoral action and Health in All Policies.Advocate and promote the use of an intersectoral approach in strengthening social protection systems to enhance health equity.Support Member States for fostering community participation in the development and adaptation of public health actions.Work closely with partner agencies on appropriate coordination mechanisms to promote intersectoral action and community participation.Collaborate in the preparation of the department’s Biennial Work Plan (BWP).When called upon to supervise staff, establish clear work objectives and conduct performance appraisals.Perform other related duties, as assigned.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSEducation:Essential:

A university degree in health or social science and a master’s degree in health policy, social development or other field related to the functions of the post.Desirable:

Ph.D. in social or health policy or related areas.Experience:Essential:

Nine years of combined national and international experience in technical cooperation policies, programs and projects that address the social determinants of health and health equity.Desirable:

Proven experience in managing complex international programs related to intersectoral action and community participation.Skills:Overall attitude at work:

USD $77,326.00 + post adjustment.Post Adjustment:
