JOB SUMMARY:

This position provides executive direction to the formulation and administration of Risk Management, Safety, and Transportation and reports directly to the VP for Business and Finance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop and oversee risk management, environment/occupational safety, emergency programs, and transportation to ensure safety and compliance for the campus community.

Monitor Risk Management, Safety, and Transportation programs for compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Develop and monitor programs related to occupational health, industrial hygiene, and safety.

Assist with the development and maintenance of disaster preparedness and emergency operations plans.

Develop benchmarking criteria and collect performance data to monitor success and risk conditions.

Develop and implement programs for the investigation and prevention of accidents related to transportation and safety.

Conduct and coordinate all campus fire drills and exercises and employee training related to emergency management.

Work closely with local first responders and emergency management officials during campus-wide emergencies.

Oversee and ensure the inspection and maintenance of fire safety measures in campus facilities.

Provide guidance and support to University executives, committees, and councils regarding risk management, safety, and transportation.

Administer and oversee the operating budget for Risk Management, Safety, and Transportation.

Manage third-party fleet management contracts.

Serve as the University liaison with the State of Georgia (DOAS) Risk Management regarding insurance matters.

Maintain current property values for insurance purposes.

Responsible for acquiring and maintaining an inventory of vehicles for travel.

Direct and monitor internal procedures for the control and utilization of motor pool vehicles.

Oversee vehicle motor pool and equipment maintenance and inventory.

Ensure compliance with policies and procedures related to risk management, safety, and transportation.

Participate in departmental planning and improvement projects.

Coordinate audits and ensure findings are addressed within 60 days.

Perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Possession of or ability to obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia.

Baccalaureate degree in a related field or combination of education and experience.

Minimum of three years of independent experience in safety and risk management.

Minimum of two years of training experience in safety and risk management.

Ability to work weekends and flexible hours.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of Board of Regents policies and related laws and regulations.

Knowledge of Risk Management programs and university environmental responsibilities.

Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.

Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software.

Skill in decision making, problem solving, and interpersonal relations.

Skill in oral and written communication.

Skill in collaborating with diverse groups.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The work consists of varied duties regarding risk management responsibilities.

The position directs the university's risk management, public health, environmental protection, transportation, and compliance responsibilities.

The work is typically performed in an office and outdoors, with potential exposure to inclement weather.

The employee may be subjected to fumes, odors, dust, gases, extreme temperatures, and intense noises.
