Fort Valley State University, the only 1890 land-grant university in Georgia, is a comprehensive institution that provides an education to over 2,800 students including graduate students. The university is located in the town of Fort Valley in Peach County, the original site of the state's peach industry. Its 1,365-acre (5.52 km2) campus is Georgia's second-largest public university in area.

JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for directing the operations of the College of Arts and Sciences.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Recruits, supervises, and evaluates college faculty; makes recommendations to the Provost & Vice President for Academic Affairs on matters related to hiring, promotion, tenure, and terms of employment.

Promotes faculty scholarship, professional development, and institutional and community service; supervises, promotes, and evaluates professional development for college staff.

Manages and administers the college budget with regards to faculty travel, professional development, technology purchases, and general operations.

Resolves problems with faculty, staff and students.

Oversees curriculum development, delivery of instruction, and assessment and evaluation of programs in collaboration with faculty.

Plans and prepares the scheduling of classes.

Conducts meetings of the college faculty for the purposes of planning, data collection and reporting.

Fosters academic professionalism through participating in professional organizations, engaging in research, publishing scholarly works, and/or through other appropriate methods.

Performs related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Doctoral degree in a course of study related to the occupational field required.

More than five years of related experience required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of program accreditation requirements.

Knowledge of program assessment and strategic planning strategies.

Knowledge of budget development and management principles.

Knowledge of university program requirements.

Knowledge of classroom practices, teaching methodologies, assessment systems, and educational technology.

Knowledge of faculty recruitment and hiring strategies.

Skill in the delegation of responsibility and authority.

Skill to make timely decisions.

Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs.

Skill in decision making and problem solving.

Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.

Skill in oral and written communication.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

This position has direct supervision over Academic Department Chair (9) and Senior Academic Services Assistant (1).

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The work performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light objects.
