Position SummaryCommunications inform, engage and connect us in so many different ways. As an Associate Director, Communications for UCLA’s Student Alumni Programs and Family Engagement team (SAPFE), your strong experience and ability to develop and lead our communication strategies and efforts will help strengthen and magnify our student and family engagement. In addition to expanding your skills within developing and implementing communications, this role is a great opportunity to advance your career by also working with our SAPFE team in managing signature programs and events. You will develop and execute communications and market the strategy and branding of our programs and events. You will create and distribute high-quality written, electronic and digital communications that highlight the contributions and positive impact of our student and family networks, and the SAPFE team. You will also work closely with team members and campus and community partners to design and implement programs and events to engage our wider alumni audience in lifelong learning and community engagement, in alignment with the University’s commitment to inclusive excellence. Salary & CompensationUCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Salary offers at the top of the range are not common. Visit

QualificationsMinimum of four years of prior experience in a marketing/communications environment, preferably in an educational and/or nonprofit, client service-oriented environment. (Required)Prior experience and/or ability to create, develop/implement broad long/short term strategic communications plans, display strong creative flair, sense of versatility, conceptual/visual ability and originality. (Required)Experience working with volunteers to build communication strategies and programming initiatives with ability to orient, train, organize and motivate staff and volunteers. (Required)Experience with marketing and social media communications platforms including but not limited to: Salesforce, Blackbaud CRM, Smartsheet, Facebook/Instagram, and Adobe Creative Cloud is preferred. Ability to learn new platforms in a prompt and efficient manner and to assist others. (Preferred)Knowledge of all aspects of communications, including strategic planning for various media venues, technical aspects and requirements of various venues and most appropriate and effective applications. (Required)Knowledge and understanding of technical applications to effectively direct technical staff, or perform technical work as needed, including design concepts, various media and their applications. (Required)Knowledge and skills to advise and consult with managers/ leadership to ensure delivery of messaging to targeted and/or broad general audiences. (Required)Demonstrated ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds, inclusive of gender, sexual orientation, race/ethnicity, socioeconomic class, ability, etc. (Required)Strong background in project and/or program management including identifying and setting priorities and goals, identifying stakeholders, developing action plans, analyzing problems, determining solutions, meeting deadlines and managing planning processes from inception to completion. (Required)Highly collaborative with demonstrated well-developed interpersonal skills to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships; strong political acumen skills with proven ability to interact effectively and diplomatically with a wide variety of internal and external constituents. (Required)Outstanding verbal and written communication skills to convey a wide variety of information to individuals and groups, including complex material; strong active listening skills. (Required)Demonstrated skill in working equally well independently and as part of a team; ability to follow through on all assignments with minimal direction, identify opportunities for process/program improvements; skill in organizing, developing/implementing new projects, programs and initiatives. (Required)Strong analytical ability to define problems and meet objectives, identify relevant factors and concerns, and recognize alternatives and their implications. (Required)Detail-oriented, goal-oriented, well organized and focused with a high level of initiative and energy; creative and resourceful with ability to work effectively in a large, complex organization. (Required)Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft suite of applications (to include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.,)/other software to produce meeting documents and maintain complex databases, tables, reports etc.; ability to learn new technologies in a prompt, efficient manner and to assist others. (Required)

Special Conditions for EmploymentBackground Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation.Able to travel to off-site meetings and events during regular business hours, evenings and weekends in an efficient manner, sometimes with little advanced notice for events and programmatic activities.
