Job SummaryThe successful candidate will support research in the lab of Dr. Catherine (Cammie) McBride at Purdue University. The Lead Research Technician will provide a wide range of support and assistance for a study with elementary-aged children focused on testing a comprehensive battery of online literacy assessment tools and will help with day-to-day lab operations including recruitment and scheduling; management and analysis of data; and remote data collection. The technician will also assist on other projects related to the science of reading and writing at Purdue University. There will be opportunities to assist with the development of presentations and manuscripts. The Lead Research Technician will also supervise undergraduate research assistants and will work closely with Dr. McBride as well as graduate student(s) and/or post-doctoral associate(s) working in the lab and will assist with other support functions and duties as needed. This position is ideal for a recent college graduate interested in applying to graduate school. You must submit a cover letter to be considered.

Required:

Bachelor’s degree in psychology, HDFS, SLHS, or related field

1 to 2 years of experience.

Ability to work collaboratively and communicate to build relationships with individuals at all levels within the lab.

Ability to provide basic assistance to researchers in manipulating, computing, and analyzing data.

Experience working with human subjects

Experience working with children

Experience with online data collection in Qualtrics, REDCap, or similar platform

Experience with data management in SPSS, Excel

Experience with IRB submissions

Commitment to supporting an inclusive laboratory environment

Exceptional communication, interpersonal skills, and professionalism as a collegial team member

Excellent writing and editing skills

Interest in research relating to developmental psychology, literacy, early childhood, or related field

Ability to work as part of a team and train others

Strong organizational and time management skills with emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail

Familiarity with grant writing, submission, and management

Ability to efficiently multitask and meet deadlines

Ability to anticipate needs and solve problems

Ability to work in-person on Purdue’s main campus in West Lafayette, IN
