Position Summary:

The Staff Dentist is responsible for providing comprehensive dental care to patients, including diagnosing, treating, and preventing oral health issues. This role involves performing routine and complex dental procedures, developing treatment plans, and educating patients on oral hygiene practices. The Staff Dentist ensures high-quality patient care, maintains compliance with health and safety regulations, and contributes to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the dental team.

Position Responsibilities

Perform comprehensive dental examinations to diagnose oral health issues and develop appropriate treatment plans.

Conduct routine and complex dental procedures, including fillings, extractions, root canals, crowns, bridges, and dentures.

Administer local anesthesia to patients prior to dental procedures.

Provide preventive care such as cleanings, fluoride treatments, and sealants to maintain and improve patients' oral health.

Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices and preventive care to promote long-term dental health.

Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including treatment plans, progress notes, and billing information.

Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including infection control protocols and proper sterilization of dental instruments and equipment.

Collaborate with other dental professionals, including dental hygienists, assistants, and administrative staff, to provide coordinated care.

Stay current with advancements in dental techniques and technologies through continuing education and professional development.

Address patient concerns and provide compassionate care to ensure a positive patient experience.

Ensure the proper functioning and availability of dental equipment, instruments, and supplies. Report any maintenance or repair needs to the Clinic Coordinator promptly.

Lead and maintain compliance with OSHA policies and procedures, specifically focusing on exposure control.

Deliver dental care in mobile settings, including locations such as SERBU, Bethel, and other new programs as required.

Supervise and provide feedback and oversight to dental and hygiene students for the dental assistant training program.

Required Qualifications

Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from an accredited dental school.

Current and valid Oregon Dentist License.

Current DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) registration.

Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.

Proof of malpractice insurance.

Ability to work effectively with low-income adults and children, providing compassionate and culturally sensitive care.

Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.

Demonstrated ability to interact professionally with volunteer professionals and coordinate care in a collaborative environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced training or certification in specialized areas of dentistry, such as orthodontics, periodontics, or pediatric dentistry.

Two (2) years of clinical experience preferred though new graduates will be considered.

Experience working in a community health setting or with public health programs.

Demonstrated leadership skills in supervising and mentoring dental and hygiene students.

Proficient in both English and Spanish.

Previous experience in providing dental care in mobile or outreach settings.

Effective communication skills to educate patients on oral health, collaborate with dental team members, and supervise dental and hygiene students.

Flexibility and adaptability to provide dental care in various settings, including mobile clinics and community programs.

Compassionate patient care to address concerns, alleviate anxiety, and ensure a positive experience for all patients.

Commitment to continuous professional development to stay current with advancements in dental techniques, technologies, and industry standards.

Compensation Details:

This is a non-exempt position with a target starting base compensation of $70 per hour paid on a bi-weekly basis.

This position requires successful passage of a State mandated background check.
