As the Director, you will lead a dynamic team in developing and implementing innovative strategies to enhance student achievement and foster a culture of excellence within our secondary schools. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Provide supervision, consultation, and support for secondary principals

Serve as leader and general resource person in matters relating to secondary curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation

Support academic programs, facilitate program revisions, and assess staffing allocations at secondary schools

Assist with the evaluation and supervision of secondary principals

Assist principals in the development of school improvement goals and action steps

Assist schools with school staff-community relations and parent involvement issues

Provide ongoing professional development for secondary principals and teachers

Meet with school administrators to assist with planning, directing programs, and identifying staffing needs

Provide support to school administrators in meeting State and Federal Accreditation, Accountability, and Graduation benchmarks

Maintain appropriate records and statistics regarding trends, needs and success at the middle and high school level

Meet regularly with the Assistant Superintendent to provide information and discuss issues that might directly affect the division

Serve as a liaison between schools and various departments with the Central Office

Collaborate with Directors and Administrators for the successful development, maintenance, and implementation of MCPS programs, policies, and activities

Attend School Board meetings and prepare reports for the Board as requested

Assist in the development and implementation of administrative procedures for secondary schools

Collaborate with the Director of Elementary Education to implement K-12 initiatives

Collaborate with the Director of Elementary Education to provide guidance, direction, and evaluation for curriculum administrators

Collaborate with the Director of Human Resources to develop, maintain and meet state teacher evaluation process

Serve on strategic planning committee

Analyze and evaluate data for the purpose of ensuring that initiatives and actions meet division objectives

Maintain a current program of studies for secondary schools

Communicate and maintain a liaison with parents, social, professional, volunteer, and other community agencies or groups having an interest in secondary education

Develop agendas for and lead regularly scheduled secondary principal meetings

Respond to community and school queries regarding program offerings and operating procedures

Assist in the preparation of budgets for assigned programs and monitor expenditures

Remain abreast of developments, innovations, and policies related to education

Serve as an administrator of the Secondary Fine Arts programs in collaboration with the Fine Arts Lead Teachers to include development and oversight of curriculum

Serve as an administrator of the Secondary Health and Physical Education (HPE) programs in collaboration with the HPE Lead Teacher to include development and oversight of curriculum, provide resource support and instructional coordination for all health and physical education staff

Provide instructional support for Family Life Program

Provide administrative support with the athletic programs

Complete other duties assigned by the Superintendent

Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from an accredited institution

Hold or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in Administration and Supervision, PreK-12

Possess superlative leadership abilities

Demonstrate ability to effectively manage a diverse team and build consensus

Demonstrate ability to effectively supervise and evaluate staff

Have experience with shared-decision making/collaborative leadership

Have three years secondary classroom experience

Have three years middle or high school principal or school district level experience

Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Exhibit an ability to analyze and interpret data and use problem-solving skills

Have experience in successfully implementing school-wide programs

Display a proven track record of improving student achievement

Possess training and experience in mentoring and coaching school administrators

Possess knowledge of Virginia High School League (VHSL) programs and regulations

Model effective verbal and written communications skills

Possess initiative and ability to effectively work with minimal supervision

Demonstrate ability to effectively make oral presentations before large groups of people

Demonstrate ability to maintain an unquestionable degree of confidentiality

Demonstrate ability to multitask, work with interruptions, and work under pressure

Demonstrate ability to be dependable, punctual, and complete tasks without direct supervision

SALARY:

$98,582.54 - $177,588.94 annually, with benefits - depending on experience
