POSITION SUMMARY:

Palisades is seeking a Macro Credit Research Associate or Vice President to join its Investment Management Team in Austin, Texas, or Evanston/Chicago, Illinois.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in researching fixed income markets, securitization, interest rates, and other factors influencing housing and residential credit markets. The Associate/Vice President will conduct research, perform in-depth data analysis, develop and maintain models, and produce reports on macroeconomic and market trends affecting the fixed income, credit, and residential housing sectors. The individual will work closely with portfolio managers, traders, and other investment professionals to stay informed about market developments and produce views on factors affecting portfolio strategies.

The role involves (i) formulating and articulating investment views across global credit markets, (ii) building and maintaining models to track fundamentals and relative value across key macro credit markets, and (iii) writing differentiated and thoughtful research for distribution to internal stakeholders and external clients.

This is a small team, and any candidate must be a team-player, able and willing to work on cross-over projects, able to pick up complex concepts and communicate effectively to both internal and external constituents. The position will allow the candidate to work collaboratively across the Company’s cross-functional teams (Data Research & Reporting, Trading & Analytics, Asset Management, Capital Markets, Transaction Management, and Collateral Management) and to learn from the firm’s industry leading professionals. The ideal candidate will be intellectually curious, a self-starter, have a strong attention to detail, and be able to work under time sensitive deadlines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Work directly with investment team members to conduct research on fixed income products, mortgage credit markets, housing, labor markets, interest rates, and other areas influencing housing and mortgage credit investments.

Follow events related to credit markets closely, including but not limited to central bank policies, economic indicators, debt issuance trends, fund flows, and other related factors.

Develop and maintain models for analyzing macroeconomic trends and their impact on credit markets.

Leverage all available data sources to identify dislocations/investment opportunities, and flag new ideas for original research content.

Monitor market and economic events, provide timely analysis, and respond to requests from team members.

Collaborate with team members to integrate research insights into investment decisions.

Research new, and continuously improve existing, signals.

Assist in the creation of regular research publications and presentation materials.

Produce written reports on findings and present insights to investment professionals and clients.

Communicate with clients and media and be able to articulate views on macroeconomic trends.

EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS, AND SKILLS:

Minimum 2-4 years of experience with research related to residential mortgage markets or fixed income.

Previous experience as a credit research analyst on the buy or sell side.

Experience with mortgage loan datasets, such as Black Knight, CoreLogic, Fannie/Freddie a plus.

A passion for investing and markets.

Understanding of fixed income markets and bond valuation.

Proficiency with Bloomberg, Microsoft Excel, and PowerPoint.

Comfort with analyzing large data sets. Programming skills are a plus.

Solid writing skills.

Collaborative self-starter, eager to learn.

Ability to understand, internalize, and execute the team’s goals and objectives, while working around the inevitable obstacles.

Ability to multitask and manage multiple priorities/deadlines.

Excellent analysis and problem-solving skills; ability to abstract and formalize problems.

Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions and instruct others, train personnel, write reports, and correspond with clients and employees.
