Overview:

The Director of Human Resources will oversee the HR team mission of recruiting and retaining top-performing talent while developing our employee experience and strengthening our organizational culture. This individual will work closely with hiring teams and supervise the HR team. This position will build systems and processes to effectively oversee day-to-day operations of the Human Resource department and is responsible for the following areas:

Talent Management

Develop strategy to recruit qualified candidates and ensure the ministry is maintaining a high-quality candidate experience.

Oversee recruiting and ensure effective interviewing and onboarding processes are being followed.

Regularly monitor employee engagement and satisfaction through annual surveys, manager interviews, and exit interview trends; report findings and recommendations to supervisor.

Staff Development

Oversee and provide assistance with performance management systems and processes including annual reviews, performance improvement plans, and job descriptions.

Ensure all employees are equipped and trained for their roles, including oversight of staff training, orientation, and the management training process.

Oversee organization-wide GiANT training and identify ways to incorporate GiANT language into organizational culture.

Develop and maintain career development ladders, standards, and programs, including a framework for ongoing feedback and growth, such as annual performance reviews and recurring one-on-one meetings between managers and staff.

Develop and oversee training and continuing Mercy education programs.

Employee Relations

Recommend employee engagement practices necessary to establish a positive employer-employee relationship and promote a high level of staff engagement.

Create systems to collect and review staff feedback.

Oversee employee disciplinary meetings, investigations, terminations, and exit interviews.

Handle complex employee relations issues, disputes, and disciplinary actions.

Review and support managers through the consideration of employment terminations and performance improvement plans and make recommendations to the leadership team.

Policy and Compliance

Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal employment and payroll laws, as well as licensing requirements.

Administer, design, and evolve HR strategy policies, processes, and systems, and ensure managers and staff are well-informed on policy protocols.

Develop HR policy recommendations and maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, along with recommended best practices.

Ensure the Employee Handbook stays current and annual policies are administered to employees.

Compensation and Benefits

In partnership with the Chief Executive Officer, review wage and salary data and administer compensation programs for new hires, promotions, and transfers.

Oversee payroll, including review before submission for accuracy and timeliness.

Manage, advise, and ensure the execution of benefits programs that support Mercy's objectives and meet employees' needs.

Other Administrative Functions

Ensure the department is benefiting from all functions of the HR platform (Paycom) and continuously finding ways to gain efficiency through automation.

Maintain professional and technical knowledge by reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, participating in professional societies, and attending education seminars and workshops.

Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law, and incorporate updates into HR framework as needed.

Schedule:

Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm (40 hours/week)

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in business, HR, Administration, or related field or 5 plus years of proven leadership in Human Resources. SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP is highly desired.

Skills:

A strong background in human resource leadership, personnel law, and working knowledge of Federal/State/local employment laws and regulations. A thorough understanding of, and dedication to, the vision of Mercy Multiplied, along with demonstrated Christian work ethics and a discerning approach to the sensitive and confidential nature of all matters related to the business of the ministry. A highly effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to clearly and concisely articulate ideas, concepts, and proposals is required. Must demonstrate high integrity, professionalism, and discretion in handling confidential matters. Must demonstrate ability to use sound judgment and recognize critical problems and opportunities. A strong ability to perform well and be unfailingly diplomatic in high pressure and complex situations. A good coach and outstanding team leader that is successful teaming with colleagues. Exceptional problem-solving skills with the ability to envision and deliver innovative solutions. Excellent organization and time management skills are a must. Thorough knowledge of HRIS related systems (HR database) and Report Writers.
