The role’s areas of responsibilities include but are not limited to the budget, cash management general ledger review, tax, audit support, student loans and special projects. This is professional accounting work with responsibility for both budgeting and accounting functions. This role will also coordinate budget and finance related process improvements in collaboration with end-users, Information Technology, and the CFO.

Essential Functions:

General Ledger

- Responsible for Chart of Accounts in Ellucian Banner, including addition of funds.

Budget Management

– Prepare, monitor, forecast, and analyze all aspects of the Catawba budget.

Create monthly budget reports.

Advise CFO regarding budget matters including periodic estimates of income and expenditures.

Analyze factors affecting revenue and expenditures, trends in certain budget categories, and unit compliance or deviation from budget parameters.

Tax

- Coordinate and oversee all tax filings from annual Form 990 to payroll and other filings.

Audit

– Manage the external audit. Monitor, examine, and audit various financial statements/reports for accuracy and integrity and conformance to accepted accounting and program guidelines.

Reporting

- Distill and present complex data in forms that create value and are accessible to a diverse range of user roles; tailored and anticipatory in terms of report relevance, timing and frequency; and meet or exceed the information and decision-making needs of various stakeholders including division and campus leadership.

Create, review and distribute monthly financial statements.

Responsible for the coordination of monthly close schedule.

Complete external reporting for SACS, financial institutions, EADA/NCAA and others.

Endowment reporting.

Student loan reconciliation and assistance.

Grant applications and reporting.

Backup Support

– Act as backup for other aspects of accounting and budget, with cross-training in student accounts, accounting, payroll, and accounts payable.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required.

Minimum of five (5) years in progressive accounting experience required.

Masters or CPA preferred.

Intermediate to advanced level Excel skills required.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Exhibited technological adeptness and proficient use of Excel and other financial reporting tools, software, and systems to collect, consolidate, distill, organize, and interpret and present complex data suited to the role and information needs of various stakeholders.

Ability to effectively communicate with all levels within the college and to establish and maintain productive working relationships with staff, faculty, administration, students, and other internal and external constituents.

Detail oriented producing accurate, timely information and materials, which includes the production of management-ready reports and presentations.

Experience with Ellucian Banner (ERP) preferred.

Expert proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel (Advanced).

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as a computer, phone, and copier.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those to be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing and movement is required. This would require the ability to lift files and file boxes, open filing cabinets, walking, and bending or standing as necessary.
