SVA has openings for Staff Accountants to join our team in our Brookfield, Wisconsin office. These positions provide a great opportunity to build an accounting career in a mid-sized, independent Professional Services company.

The Staff Accountant position is an entry-level role that performs general, basic accounting and auditing tasks. Assignments provide experience and familiarization with SVA methods, policies, and practices as they relate to accounting, tax and auditing.

Staff accountants work closely with more senior staff, who share experience and provide work guidance, answer questions, help make decisions on methods and solutions, and provide feedback.

90% Client Work

Work with in-charge to complete assigned audits, reviews, and compilations.Prepare simple financial statements.Assist clients with bookkeeping (monthly, quarterly, and annually).Post adjustments to working trial balance.Create and maintain property and equipment and calculate depreciation and amortization.Prepare payroll tax, sales tax and other local tax returns.Record transactions in journals, classify postings, total and cross-total entries for a period.Post journals to ledger and balance books.With guidance, meet budget and time allotments for each phase of engagement.Complete administrative and other client related tasks.Maintain confidentiality with client information in accordance with related laws and regulations and adhere to all SVA policies and procedures.Ensure all duties are performed efficiently, and to a satisfactory level, typically requiring 55-60 hours/week during busy season (including weekends), and 40-45 hours/week during non-busy season.All other duties as assigned.

Work with senior staff to develop and execute career path.With guidance, rotate to get exposure to five key areas: audit, non-audit assurance, business tax, individual tax, and/or management advisory services.Utilize internal and external learning opportunities.Participate in projects as identified.Explore and engage in community involvement.Prepare for and take the CPA examination.

Qualifications:

College graduate with degree in accounting;CPA Designation, or sufficient credits to take the CPA ExamStrong comfort with PC and familiarity of accounting software programsGood technical and analytical skillsExperience in a public accounting firm helpful, but not required.
