Job Summary:Under general direction, the Staff Accountant performs professional accounting work including the maintenance and review of financial records; preparation of various reports and financial statements; and performance of a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for various day-to-day tasks, including but not limited to financial statement preparation, general ledger maintenance, account reconciliations, and journal entries. The Staff Accountant will also provide support in the analysis of financial data and participate in audits.

Job Responsibilities:

GENERAL ACCOUNTING

Prepare month end journal entries per company guidelines, including creating and/or gathering supporting documentation to substantiate entry.Prepare accurate and timely balance sheet reconciliations in accordance with company guidelines, including but not limited to reconciliation to GL, creating supporting schedules, and promptly resolving account variances.Conduct research through accounting and reporting systems (JDE, Hubble, and Catalyst) to validate accuracy of financial transactions and take necessary actions to resolve.Adhere to corporate timelines for journal entry processing, balance sheet reconciliations, financial reporting, and other tasks assigned.Review and analyze income statement and balance sheet accounts to accrue period expenses, defer future costs, and validate expense coding and account classification. Create necessary journal entries to adjust financials. Prepare and/or audit bank statement reconciliations, including proactive communication and review sessions with support teams to resolve reconciling items and account discrepancies.(The GM is reviewed at manager level and FPA, this can be pushed down moving forward but additional process changes would be required)Complete the year-end and periodic inventory rollforward and/or rollback for retail inventory, including collaborate with retail operations to investigate discrepancies and large variances.Prepare monthly and periodic reporting for SRA’s, inventory, and general ledger activity as assigned.Assist management with other critical projects as needed.Master existing accounting technologies related to retail POS system, general accounting ERP system, business intelligence and financial reporting systems.

FIXED ASSETS

Review CIP project requests against capitalization guidelines and authority matrix. Issue CIP number for tracking project activity.Collaborate with project owners to close CIP projects to fixed assets in an accurate and timely manner.Prepare and/or review monthly fixed asset depreciation.Complete fixed asset rollforward in accordance with company guidelines, ensuring all variances are researched and resolved promptly.Assist with operations with Fixed Asset audits as required.

COMPLIANCE

Support tax and statutory reporting compliance by compiling and preparing supporting information as requested by the Tax Department and Accounting management. Actively participate in annual financial and ABL audits by preparing supporting schedules, completing audit packages, and answering audit inquiries.Ensure compliance with applicable accounting regulations, internal controls, and company policies and champion process improvements.

PROCESS IMPROVEMENT

Proactively collaborate with accounting leadership, operations, and support teams to implement solutions for system and/or process issues discovered.Assist leadership to improve process improvement opportunities within Accounting team.Participate on cross functional teams to develop troubleshoot inefficiencies and implement streamlined processes.

PEOPLE

Build strong working relationships with SVP coworkers and third-party partners.Collaborate cross-functionally with other departments to promote teamwork and foster a culture of continuous improvement.Participate in cross training opportunities to strengthen personal knowledge base and enhance overall strength of the Accounting team.

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field preferred3 to 5 years of related experience in Accounting, Retail or Manufacturing industry preferred, Global accounting experience preferredThe ability to collect data, define problems, establish facts, and draw valid conclusionsThe motivation to learn and constantly improve processes and toolsThe people skills needed to work with various teams and stakeholders, etc.Exceptional intellectual and analytical curiosity with proven capability to strategically problem-solveCollaborative approach and outstanding listening skillsAbility to work independently and as part of a team:Proficiency with reporting tools, ERP systems and Microsoft Office suite, JD Edwards World experience preferredYou will need to be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation, including:
