Description Basic Function: Under the direction of the Shop Manager, carries out assigned duties and tasks ensuring that vehicles and equipment are properly prepared for application of paint. Applies paint as directed ensuring application meets specifications and that outcomes result in an appearance that meets Cranemasters standards. Responsibilities Essential Functions: Performs tasks assigned by Shop Manager ensuring that vehicles and equipment are properly prepped prior to painting. Typical duties include: cleaning vehicle or equipment prior to painting, grinding, surface cleaning, sanding, taping/masking. Oversees/assists Painters Helpers in removal of accessories from vehicles and equipment prior to painting/masking/prep work. Includes: removal of chrome, mirrors, windshield wipers, etc. Performs assigned tasks in paint shop including: mixing or thinning paint, surface preparation, operating hand-tools/equipment. Operates spray gun according to knowledge of painting technique, to direct spray onto work surface to apply primer or finish coat. Cleans spraying equipment, responsible for the cleanliness of the paint booth and all associated work areas. May operate forklift or other material management handling equipment to transport parts to designated areas. Responsible for inspecting painted product, re-works as needed to ensure quality standards are met. Performs all duties in a safe manner and in accordance with established work standards. Follows all safety rules/regulations. Cleans tools and paint equipment to ensure quality operation and maintenance of trade tools. Maintains a clean and organized work area. Proactively participates in all training opportunities to further develop skills and abilities. Other duties as assigned. Required Travel: As may be required for work related travel to and from other Cranemasters locations, training, seminars, and meetings. Qualifications Required Skills and Experience: Minimum of 5 years technical training and/or on-the-job training having achieved painting skill level of Journeyman. Ability to operate spray gun and related painting equipment including high pressure air hose. Demonstrated ability to meet expectations for attention to detail and achievement of work assignments; commitment to completion of tasks and follow-up responsibilities. Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent. Team player committed to working in a quality environment. Ability to work well under pressure and to meet deadlines. Strong communication and organizational skills. Proficient computer skills. Able to read, write and speak English. Physical Demands: Constantly on feet Walking / carrying loads on uneven surfaces and in ballast. Working in ALL weather conditions. Working extended hours. Must be able to distinguish colors, color acuity required. Ability to work with chemicals and solvent. Must be able to wear and work in protective clothing/PPE. Constant bending, twisting, stooping, standing, and / or walking. Regular lifting of up to 50 pounds; loads in excess of 50 pounds and which can be reduced, should be made lighter. Employee must obtain assistance when lifting items weighing more than 75 pounds, or items which present ergonomic challenges in lifting/movement/placement. Note: Cranemasters is a 24/7 emergency service provider to the railroad industry and as such employees are subject to work outside of normal working hours including nights, weekends and/or holidays. Required Certifications and Licenses: Valid Driver's License E-Rail Safe Other certifications will be obtained as required.
