Our mission is to preserve and protect the integrity of gaming activities through fair regulation, licensing, effective criminal investigation, and enforcement.The Commission regulates legal gambling in the state, including licensed pari-mutuel wagering facilities, cardrooms, and slot machine gaming facilities. In addition, through the Division of Gaming Enforcement, the Commission investigates criminal gambling activity and enforces the state’s criminal gambling laws.Working at the Commission provides an exciting opportunity to participate in regulating authorized gaming and enforcing cutting-edge laws in the gambling industry.Position Responsibilities:The Office of General Counsel supports the Commission by providing legal counsel on all matters under the Commission’s jurisdiction and prosecuting noncompliance with Florida’s gambling laws.As a Senior Attorney in the litigation unit, you will play a crucial role in all aspects of administrative and civil litigation, including:Advising the Commission on a variety of complex legal issues involving permitting, licensure, and compliance with Florida gambling laws;Conducting legal research, drafting charging documents and appellate briefs, and engaging in motion practice;Representing the Commission in administrative and civil courts;Presenting cases in front of the Commission at scheduled meetings.This position will operate under the supervision of a Chief Attorney.Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Skill in drafting legal documents;Skill in managing multiple complex cases;Ability to use Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel;Ability to prioritize work;Ability to work independently and in a team environment;Ability to communicate effectively;Ability to conduct legal research;Ability to make oral presentations in court and in large groups;Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments;Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques;Ability to manage a litigation case load;Ability to recognize and act on emerging issues and shifting priorities;Ability to adapt to changing work volume and variety and work efficiently under stressful situations;Ability to travel.Minimum Qualifications:Admission to the Florida Bar and two (2) years of professional experience in the practice of law, legal research, teaching law or in administrative or judicial hearings.Must have a valid driver's license.Preferred Qualifications:Experience with Florida’s Administrative Procedure Act or criminal law is preferred but not required.* Applicants are required to submit a legal writing sample by uploading the documents into your People First profile or emailing documents to: ebonie.lanier@flgaming.gov, for further consideration. *Where you will work:This position is located in Tallahassee, Florida.The Benefits of Working for the State of Florida:Working for the State of Florida is more than a paycheck.
