The project:

This is an opportunity to work with Mace North America on a multi-billion-dollar transportation development in Austin, Texas. This expansive program aims to revolutionize transit throughout the Austin area with the development of new light rail systems and enhanced services across the city. The rail initiative is more than just a transit plan; it's a community effort designed to create thousands of local jobs and provide greater access to healthcare, education, employment, and essential services, fostering equity and driving economic growth. With a shared passion for environmental conservation, the project is dedicated to sustainable practices, aiming to be carbon neutral by 2040, with zero-emission transit buses by 2035, positioning Austin as a leader in environmental stewardship. Embracing the spirit of innovation, the rail initiative will integrate cutting-edge technology to make transportation smarter, more efficient, and user-friendly, enhancing the quality of life by making transit more enjoyable and accessible.

You will directly influence long term development of strategy for a function or Business Unit (BU), creating a sustainable business future.

You will provide expert technical advice and leadership support to Delivery Teams, creating a culture of ownership, promoting roles and responsibilities.You'll be responsible for:

Feasibility Studies and ProcurementFeasibility Studies: Producing comprehensive feasibility studies, providing expert advice on procurement strategies and contract selection to ensure project viability and optimal resource allocation.

Procurement Process: Directing the procurement process effectively, ensuring all stages including prequalification, enquiry, analysis, selection, and contract preparation are executed to the highest standards.Cost Management and PlanningCost Planning: Managing, estimating, and planning costs with full accountability, presenting detailed cost plans to stakeholders and ensuring financial transparency.

Cost Control and Reporting: Overseeing cost control and reporting services during contracts, ensuring accurate tracking and management of project finances.Contract ManagementContract Documentation: Approving contract documents, warranties, bonds, licenses, and ensure formal execution by appropriate parties, including issuing valuations for works carried out.

Cost Checking and Valuation: Overseeing cost checking and valuation projects, ensuring effective management and financial accuracy.

Post-Contract Reporting: Owning and presenting the production of post-contract cost reports, providing clear and comprehensive financial summaries.Change Management and Claims EvaluationDesign Changes and Client Charges: Identifying and managing costs associated with design changes, contract awards, construction activities, and client charges, ensuring financial impacts are accurately assessed.

Claims Evaluation: Evaluating claims for delays and additional costs, effectively challenging stakeholders and ensuring fair resolution of disputes.Completion and CertificationDefects and Final Completion: Overseeing the issuance of certificates of making good defects and final completion, ensuring all project requirements are met and approved.

Practical Completion and Final Accounts: Issuing certificates of practical completion and negotiate final accounts to ensure financial closure and project completion.Strategic Leadership and Performance ImprovementStrategic Development: Influencing and executing strategy for the sub-function/domain, ensuring business and project targets are met.

Performance Improvement Cycle: Directing the implementation and delivery of a systematic performance improvement cycle, driving continuous improvement in systems and processes.

Cost Management Services: Delivering cost management services to achieve key strategic outcomes and meet sub-function key performance indicators (KPIs).Team Leadership and CollaborationTeam Management: Managing a large team or several teams of senior direct reports, demonstrating effective leadership and ensuring excellence in delivery against plans.

Continuous Improvement Culture: Championing a culture of continuous improvement throughout all activities, promoting excellence and innovation.Environmental ResponsibilityNet Zero Carbon Transition: Working collaboratively towards the common goal of net zero carbon transition, proactively identifying and managing associated carbon emissions and reductions during project delivery.You'll need to have:Strong commercial and financial acumen.

Sound knowledge of value engineering, life cycle costing, contract law and contractual frameworks relating to construction.

Leadership and management experience of large, diverse teams.

Experience of managing relationships with key senior stakeholders.

Knowledge of how carbon and sustainability considerations will shape the outlook of the projects you are working on.You'll also have:Experience working in the rail infrastructure sector.

Experience in a director level position.

Industry qualification or chartership e.g. PgMP, PMI, CMI, DBIA.
