Our client, who is an association owned by its members in the concrete industry, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Director, Masonry Codes and Standards to join their team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overall management, administration, and supervision of codes and standards activities of the US-based organization and their sister organization in Canada. All decisions are made within legal provisions and the association’s bylaws, policies, and procedures.

This newly developed role will involve collaborating with cross-functional organizations and individuals to protect and advance the position of the concrete masonry industry. This role reports to the Vice President of Engineering & Advocacy, Masonry.

Director, Masonry Codes and Standards Key Responsibilities:

Direct activities for concrete masonry codes and standards across a wide range of standards and codes development organizations and forums, both within the US and Canada.

Develop, propose, and execute an annual budget.

Identify, contract, and manage a network of subject-matter experts to represent the concrete masonry industry in five areas: structural analysis and design, fire and life safety, energy and environmental separation, materials science, and environmental technologies.

Develop overall priorities for codes and standards activities for the industry, in collaboration with industry stakeholders, the US and Canada associations, and other industry partners sharing common interests.

Represent the US and Canada associations, and the industry within codes and standards development organizations, protecting and advancing the position of the concrete masonry industry.

Participate in technical committees of other associations and standards development organizations related to, or affecting concrete masonry, as assigned.

Manage national/state, provincial/territorial/local codes legislation development and monitoring systems and provide regular reports to impacted stakeholders.

Liaison to joint oversight group on codes and standards between the US and Canada associations.

Provide quarterly reports to industry leadership on codes and standards activities and outcomes.

Identify research needs to support codes and standards activities, and to support the advancement for the concrete masonry industry market relative to codes and standards developments and outcomes.

Serve as staff liaison to technical task groups as assigned.

Participate in membership meetings (both US and Canada associations) as directed.

Represent US and Canada associations at industry events, including but not limited to symposiums, technical conferences, and trade shows, as assigned.

Serve as staff manager for NCMA Foundation projects as assigned.

Perform such other duties related to codes and standards monitoring, development, and impacts as assigned.

Director, Masonry Codes and Standards Education/Work Experience Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in civil, structural, architectural, building science, or construction engineering. Graduate degree preferred.

Registered professional engineer (PE or P.Eng).

A minimum of ten years' experience in masonry design, construction, and/or materials testing.

Experience in codes and standards development preferred.

Strong ability to plan, organize, and direct association programs and support staff.

Proven writing, speaking, mathematical, and presentation skills.

Strong time management skills.

Competence in Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.

Ability to travel within the United States and Canada. Expected travel for this position is up to 50% initially.
