The description of Functions and Duties below represents an entry-level applicant. Those applying with greater experience will be tasked to work with progressively greater initiative, industry knowledge, and less oversight.
SUMMARY
Develops detail designs or product models/data for a specific technical discipline. Communicates with other departments. Provides technical assistance within/across departments. Reports to Supervisor or Sr. Supervisor. Interfaces with other Engineering groups, Production, Quality Assurance, Purchasing, Vendors, Regulatory Bodies, and other disciplines as required. Manages own priorities and schedules work as necessary to complete required tasks. Works under moderate supervision.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
Performs detail design or product modeling/production information developmentPrepares, revises and maintains plans, drawings and supporting technical dataSolves detail design problems with supervisory guidance, and may participate in problem analysis teamsApplies a sound knowledge of applicable design techniques and contract specification requirementsRepresents company on official business as directedAssumes additional responsibilities or performs varying work as working situations dictateOther responsibilities and duties as assigned
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
2-year Associate's Degree (or equivalent)5 years experience in detail design of ship structures or outfit systems (or 1 year experience plus BS degree)Demonstrated competence within discipline, with knowledge of an individual process within disciplineUnderstands shipbuilding practices, producibility and build strategy conceptsStrong knowledge of product modeling or CAD and PC applications, AVEVA Marine preferredTakes on responsibility for special projects as assigned
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work primarily conducted in an office setting with good lighting. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus. Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, operate computer keyboard and controls, and communicate verbally and in writing. Must be physically able to commute to buildings throughout the shipyard. Occasional exposure to dust, fumes and moderate levels of noise.
ACCOUNTABILITY
Completes all tasks within schedule, budget, and quality commitments.
PAY SCALE
Designer I: $60,600 - $92,100Designer II: $74,000 - $110,200Senior Designer: $82,600 - $144,900Design Specialist: $110,200 - $160,100Senior Design Specialist: $127,500 - $175,000
This pay range is a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role. It takes into account the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, and education.
